The season of giving is just around the corner, and EBW wants to make it a little brighter for a child in our community. This year, we’re collecting children’s books and donations for Reading Is Fundamental NOVA (RIF NOVA), which has provided new books to underserved children in Northern Virginia for more than 50 years. We’d love for you to join us in collecting as many books as we can!

When and where?

This year we’ll have a spot at our holiday party on December 3rd in the EBW 1st floor conference room to collect children’s books for RIF NOVA. Here is what you need to know:

• Ages: Books needed for Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
• Types: Fiction and nonfiction, paperback or hardback. Think elementary school library or the children’s section of the public library (not Young Adult).
• Condition: New or very gently used (nearly new). Part of RIF NOVA’s mission is to give children pride in owning a book, so books with worn covers or writing cannot be distributed.
• Can't accepted: Religious books, workbooks, textbooks, coloring books or sticker books.
• Especially needed: Graphic novels (like Captain Underpants, Dog Man, Lunch Lady), chapter books, and Spanish-language books.

How do I decide?

RIF NOVA keeps wish lists of new books. When you buy one, it ships straight to them or peruse the list for ideas and bring to the party.

Can I send a financial donation?

Donations support RIF NOVA’s Books for Keeps (books go home with students), Authors in Schools (a children's author visits the school) and STEAM It Up! (science and reading intersect with hands on projects) programs. You can donate directly to RIF NOVA at EBW/RIF NOVA or send a check to:
