Microsoft 365 Spam Filtering
The world continues to move to a more online and cloud-hosted environment each day. One of the biggest programs in that field is the use of Microsoft's 365 programs, particularly email hosting. There are many reasons discussed for switching to this platform, but one that is not often discussed is spam filtering. While the default filtering is not the greatest filtering out there, Microsoft still intercepted and blocked more than 13 million malicious messages in 2019.
Why Is This Important?
As we have discussed on previous editions of Tech Talk News, phishing attacks are a major threat to many organizations and the news allows for themed attacks to be more convincing. Recently this has occurred with COVID information as well as with the US election. Microsoft has been looking out for their customers and has helped in preventing some users for receiving these types of threats and reduced the capacity others receive greatly.
It should be comforting to hear that many users already have some level of protection. In fact, Microsoft has actually worked with law enforcement and other partners to recover over 500 million devices cybercriminal attacks in the past ten years, so their security with their 365 mail goes beyond some simple spam filtering.
Is 365 Right For Me?
You can certainly see benefits of having email that can be accessed from any internet-enabled device at any time as well as the pros that some filtering can bring, but if you are willing to spend more, there are additional spam filtering and encryption options that can be added to your plan.
365 is billed monthly and requires no commitment beyond a month at any time, so changes can be made. Of course, there are more inexpensive ways to host mail, so it is up to organizations to decide whether that accessibility and security is worth that additional cost. If you think you may have an interest in switching to 365 and would like to ask some questions or seek advice, feel free to send us an email or call our office.
