Spring forward, check your smoke detector battery

Don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour when Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday, March 9. It's also a great time to check your smoke alarm battery and carbon monoxide detector battery, as many need replacing every six months.

Check the manufacturer date of your smoke alarms while changing your batteries. It is recommended that you replace your smoke alarms every 10 years. You can find the manufacturer date on the bottom side of the detector, usually on a sticker located near the battery compartment.

Construction underway for new Fire Station 63

The City of Johns Creek officially broke ground and construction is underway on the new Fire Station #63 and Police Substation to be located at 9880 Brumbelow Road.

Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry, City Council member Stacy Skinner, Fire Chief Chris Coons, Police Chief Mark Mitchell, and Recreation & Parks Director Erica Madsen attended the groundbreaking ceremony in December.

The new 14,675-square foot station will be located on a 2.11-acre site a half-mile from the existing Station 63 at 3165 Old Alabama Road. The new, state of the art station will include a 13,891-square foot station house and a 766-square-foot storage facility. It will feature two double-depth bays for trucks, spacious work areas, a kitchen and dining room, day room facilities, bunk rooms, an apparatus bay, and more.

Built in 1983 and located at 3165 Old Alabama Road, the current fire station #63 is the oldest fire station serving Johns Creek and the surrounding neighborhoods. It was inherited by the City when Johns Creek took over fire services in 2008. Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2026.

Q&A: How do I request a firefighter visit?

A: If you would like the Johns Creek Fire Department to stop by your business or school, or speak to your employees about fire safety, you can make the request online.

With enough notice, Johns Creek firefighters are available to attend an array of functions in the Johns Creek community.

Requests for firefighter visits should be made no more than 30 days in advance.

Plan ahead for severe weather

Prepare now for the various types of severe weather we can experience this winter and in a few weeks, spring. Building a severe weather kit is easy to create and should be refreshed every year in order to ensure everything continues to work properly and for adjustments to your household's needs.
