Reflecting on the past year in the EFC office
|
|
Estonian Foundation of Canada's current Foundation Manager, Nicole Pede, celebrated her one-year work anniversary on February 27th, 2024. To mark the occasion, Nicole wished to share the below reflection with the EFC community.
|
|
Working at EFC this past year has been an incredibly enriching experience. I've had the opportunity to contribute to supporting Estonian cultural and heritage initiatives in Canada, while forging meaningful connections with the volunteers and donors who make these all possible for our community. I've discovered new strengths, grown personally and professionally, and felt unwavering support from colleagues, the EFC Board of Directors, and the broader Estonian community. This journey has not only deepened my appreciation for my heritage, and the people and organizations who have enabled me to learn about it in Canada, but also instilled a profound sense of purpose and belonging that I carry forward with pride and gratitude.
You will notice that EFC has an active job posting below. While I am excited to begin the next phase of my education in Fall 2024, I am sincerely looking forward to what the coming months have in store at EFC and to offering the same unwavering support to the next Foundation Manager!

On being Estonian...
"Olla eestlane on lahutamatu osa minu identiteedist."
On EFC...
"EFC is important to the community because its support allows Estonian-Canadians to continue to come together to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritage, language and traditions despite living far from our homeland. Many cultural programs and initiatives in provinces across Canada would not be feasible without the support of the Foundation’s generous funding."

On being Estonian...
"Being Estonian means being a part of a talented, hard-working, and welcoming community... Prior to Estonia re-establishing its independence in 1991, Heinz Valk famously proclaimed, 'Ükskord me võidame niikuinii!' His words touch my heart and serve as a reminder to never give-up, never surrender, and aspire to be of service to all."
On EFC...
