“Jesus said to his disciples, "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Luke 12:32-34)
I recently had a strange experience coming back from grabbing a sandwich at the 12 Meter Café in the Seamen’s Church Institute. If you haven’t eaten there, I encourage you to try it out. It’s delicious and reasonably priced. As I was walking back up to Honyman Hall, I ended up in a conversation with one of our Queen Anne Square regulars. Over the past three summers, I’ve gotten to know him a bit through our many conversations. He actually looks after our campus in a way, letting me know about the goings on and if I should be concerned about anything. At the end of our conversation, I handed him a couple of dollars. It seemed the least I could do as I returned full-bellied to the air-conditioned office.
As I turned to walk up to the church, I heard a man yelling. Shortly, I realized he was yelling at me about how my giving money to “those people” only encouraged them to be lazy and that he was probably going to blow it on booze or drugs… all the usual things people say to themselves to justify not sharing out of their abundance. I turned and walked toward the man, which seemed to surprise him. I sometimes forget how big I am, and the guy sort of moved into a defensive posture. And then I just calmly and quietly laid this scripture on him. As a Christian, I then told him, I can do no other. I wished him peace and left him standing there a bit flummoxed. I hope his heart changes. I used to be like him… if God can change my heart, God can change his.
Regardless of how you do it, it is a Christian discipline to give alms to care for those who suffer in need. Knowing the generosity that happens here, I bet that you already faithfully give alms. And if you do, I bet you’ve found greater reward in the giving than the cost. If you do not, I bet you would. Walk in Love.
Pax,

It has been so long since we have been able to gather together socially and we would like to restart our Koinonia celebrations.
Koinonia (coin-oh-nee’-ah) is the Greek word for fellowship.
There’s nothing formal about this time together and no agenda - just a chance to get to know some of the people of Trinity with good food and conversation. It is also a wonderful opportunity to include friends that might be interested in coming to Trinity.
Would you be willing to host an event?
This will be an ongoing fellowship and we will continue to add parties.
If you have an interest in hosting an event (you decide all the details) or wish to learn more, please reach out to Geer Isdale, 401.935.0962 GeerIsdale@gmail.com
