A Caring Community

As we embrace the spirit of gratitude this month, we want to take a moment to reflect on the community created at Transplant House of Cleveland. Every day, we are witnesses to the compassion, support, and care that our transplant patients and their caregivers show for one another.

Day to day life at the House is defined by small moments of kindness that have a big impact. From the warm smiles and conversations shared in our common areas to the encouraging words exchanged during our weekly dinners and breakfasts, these gestures remind guests that they do not have to face their journey to transplant alone. This is possible because of the generosity of our supporters like you. You make it possible for us to offer a safe and welcoming home for those on the transplant journey.

We invite you to join us in expressing gratitude. This month, we encourage you to share your stories of gratitude with us by replying to this email. Whether it’s a special memory made at Transplant House or a message of thanks to a fellow resident or staff member, your reflections will help to share with others about the importance of our community.

Whether you are a guest or a friend of the House, thank you for being an essential part of the Transplant House family. Together, we continue to welcome patients and caregivers to a home-way-from-home in Cleveland.

Holiday Cheer at THoC

We have two holiday volunteer opportunities coming up this month and next!

  • November 27th: Help our guests mark the holiday by providing dinner for our weekly community meal the evening before Thanksgiving. Click here to sign up!
  • December 24th: Help spread cheer on Christmas Eve by providing our guests with a midday dinner for dine-in and carry-out. If you are interested, please reply directly to this email.

Thank you for helping us to make the holiday season brighter for our guest families who are far from home this holiday season.

Board Member Spotlight

Maura McIntyre joined our Board of Trustees in May of this year. She is a senior associate in the Restructuring and Insolvency Practice Group at Squire Patton Boggs where her practice focuses on financial restructuring, corporate trust matters, and workout proceedings on behalf of financially distressed companies or their creditors. Maura, originally from Los Angeles, came to Cleveland to study law at Case Western Reserve University. She and her family now call Cleveland — winter weather and all! — home.

Happenings Around the House

Navigating the Caregiver's Journey

Being a caregiver is a profound act of love; it is also a physically and emotionally exhausting full-time job. This month, our clinical transplant social worker, Annette, launched a new bi-weekly support gathering for transplant caregivers as a way to connect current and past House guests with other caregivers who provide one another with support, resources, and encouragement. If you are a current, or former, guest and caregiver who would like to learn more, visit our website.

Thank you to Westfield Bank's Marketing Team

A big Transplant House of Cleveland thank you to board member Chris Van Ausdale and her marketing team from Westfield Bank for spending the day volunteering around our campus. They performed essential preventative maintenance, met with guests, and had a lunch of brisket made by Chris with plenty of extra food shared with our guest families.

We are beyond grateful for everything Chris does for the House and for the continuing and generous support of our mission by Westfield Bank.

An Evening on the Lawn

We welcomed old friends and new ones to Transplant House at our Open House event last month. Attendees enjoyed refreshments, conversation, tours of one of our apartments, and a fantastic live performance by Hashtag Virgo. It was a wonderful evening celebrating a decade of providing housing and support to organ transplant patients and their caregivers.

A special thank you to the volunteers from Lifebanc's call center – your help made this night a success!

We are grateful to have commemorated our history with these special people and we’re excited for what the future holds for Transplant House of Cleveland. Here’s to many more years of working together to ease the challenges on the road to transplant for patients and caregivers. See more photos here.

We’re thrilled to launch our new Monthly Giving Program! Join us in making a lasting impact on the lives of organ transplant patients and their caregivers. Your monthly contribution will help provide affordable accommodations that feel like a home away from home, ensuring that families can focus on healing during their journey.

Every gift, no matter the size, has an impact on the families who call this House home for a few nights, many months, or longer.

Ring that Bell!

Ring that bell! Earl and Renee spent 117 nights in Cleveland during Earl's lung transplant and recovery. Their journey to the life-saving gift of new lungs was not an easy one, which makes their joy at their return home to Northwest Ohio all the more special. As always, we hold the donor and their family in our hearts, grateful for the "yes" that made Earl's second chance at life possible.

If you are not already a registered organ donor, please consider becoming one today.
