Good afternoon,

Updates Regarding our Lake - We performed a visual lake inspection again today, and the lake is improving with reduced biomass of aquatic plants reaching the surface. The blue green algae biomass appears to be reducing at this time as well, and scum formations were only visible in one area the winds were blowing into the shoreline. We intend to perform another inspection on Monday and collect water samples from an area where the scum exists and other from the center of the lake to be shipped to a lab for re-testing. We will continue to run our aquatic plant harvester to cut rooted plants, and skim floating cuttings of plants from the lake.

This week, our harvester was able to get to the east end of the lake to address the calls and requests for that section of the lake while our hired machine worked in Tamarack Bay, West end, and Birch Bay Monday through Wednesday of this week. Our harvester has also been in the west end of the lake to cut plants and collect floating cuttings where the hired harvester could not enter because their machine is larger than ours.

As mentioned above, water samples will be taken and submitted for testing on Monday, August 14th. The results will take a few days but as soon as they are received, an eblast will be sent informing you of the toxin levels.

For more information on blue green algae, please visit the Illinois EPA Bluegreen algae website at: https://epa.illinois.gov/topics/water-quality/monitoring/algal-bloom.html

As always, the lake is use at your own risk and when in doubt, stay out.

Finance Committee meetings – Our Finance Committee will be meeting tomorrow, August 15th at 8:30am at the office to begin the process of developing our budget for 2027. All members are welcomed and encouraged to attend to see how the process works and to participate in the discussion. The Finance Committee will hold a 2nd meeting next Saturday, August 22 at 8:30am at the office. We’re fortunate to have the Finance Committee and our Treasurer Mark Metzler to help us navigate the task of assembling a budget that will adequately fund the many needs we have as we head into 2027. If you’re interested in knowing how your dues dollars will be used next year, please attend and participate in these meetings.

Memorial Gardens at Spring Park – About thirty (30) years ago the Memorial garden at Spring Park was established. Four areas were surrounded by bricks and each of those areas featured beautiful plantings and landscaped areas. The bricks, which formed the perimeter of the pathway and the landscaped areas and Members who lost a loved one, could have a brick engraved with the loved one’s name. This park, in the northwest corner of the property, was beautiful but time has taken its toll on the landscaped areas and the memorial bricks. Many of the plantings have become overgrown or have died and many of the memorial bricks have become weathered and are deteriorating. All of these areas will be renovated sometime next spring, and the Memorial Brick program will be retired. If you or your family has a brick honoring a loved one, you’re welcome to retrieve and keep the brick. Later this fall, all of the Memorial Bricks will be removed from the garden area and eventually discarded. If you’d like to keep your Brick, please go to Spring Park and retrieve it.

Hoping all have a happy and safe weekend!

Mike
