Director's Corner

Dear Savannah Presbytery,

We will be hosting our Fall Stated Meeting at 10 am at Metter Presbyterian Church on Thursday, October 8, and are expecting a big day. Visitors are always welcome to attend and see our voting members in action.

This would be a good one for visitors, as it will include elements of celebration, education, and unity. Three new pastors are being welcomed into membership and service for St. Simons, First Statesboro, and First Savannah. At least six Ruling Elders are being recognized for being approved as “Commissioned Pastors” and “Trained Ruling Elders” to help overcome the scarcity of available Ministers of Word and Sacrament. The Rev. Dr. Cathy Belles will be recognized upon her retirement.

Following the meeting, we’ll head down the street for a hearty lunch buffet at Bevrick’s and a program by the Rev. Dana Waters, a minister member of the presbytery who works for the Presbyterian Foundation as the Ministry Relations Officer for the Southeast Region. He visits congregations in FL, GA, MS, AL, and Puerto Rico, so he has ideas for building communities of generosity in our churches.

If you cannot attend but would like to connect with Dana and the resources he can share with your Stewardship and Finance Committee, Session, Endowment Committee, Capital Campaign Committee, etc., please reach out to Dana directly.

Thank you for making Savannah Presbytery the supportive and connected community of churches and Christ followers that it is.

God bless you,

Deanie

Matthew 25 Moments

  • The Racial Justice Ministry Team (RJMT) has annually provided pilgrimage opportunities, studies, Bridge Building experiences and anti-racism trainings since its inception in 2020 in response to the murder of Ahmaud Arbery within our presbytery's bounds. These activities have been designed to meet people where they are and to provide opportunities for education, conversation, and action. Our call to the work is to help participants follow Jesus Christ in creating the beloved community where God’s vision for a world in which all can flourish as God’s children is realized and all are loved for who they are.

  • Look for more opportunities in coming months and please take time to explore our Savannah Presbytery website page to find various resources for your own journey! Visit: Racial Justice - Savannah Presbytery

What is the Matthew 25 Invitation?

As a Matthew 25 Presbytery, we are called to share the stories of how God is at work in our congregations and communities. We invite each congregation to submit brief “Matthew 25 Moments” highlighting impactful ministries, transformed lives, new opportunities for service, or ways faith has been strengthened. Send articles and photos to Ada Owens at communications@savannahpresbytery.org with the subject line “Matthew 25 Moments” for publication in our newsletters.
