Jewish Communities Around the World

Presenter: Judie Fein

Tuesday, September 9 at 7:30 PM

in the Fellowship Hall at UU

In Person Only

For 25 years, award-winning international travel journalist Judith Fein has been on assignments around the world, and unexpectedly found remote, fascinating, and under-the-radar Jewish communities. Some are so ancient their origins go back before recorded history. Come with her to South Africa, Tunisia, Guatemala, Mexico, Israel, Portugal, the Caribbean, Brazil…and more.

Judith has contributed to 130 international publications, written four award-winning books related to travel, been a keynote speaker for many organizations, and her latest book, Slow Travel New Mexico, was chosen as best travel book by the Arizona-New Mexico Book Awards. She has written about some of these communities for the BBC, Los Angeles Times, Hadassah Magazine, San Diego Jewish Journal, Jerusalem Post, Jerusalem Report, and many more. On a local level, she has frequently contributed to Pasatiempo (The New Mexican) and writes for New Mexico Jewish Journal.

Sunday, September 7, 1:30-2:30PM

The Jewish Community Council of Northern New Mexico (JCCNNM) warmly invites you to join us in a cherished tradition: visiting the cemetery during the month of Elul to honor and remember beloved family and friends who have passed away.

This one-hour Remembrance Service will be led by all four of Santa Fe’s congregational Rabbis and three Cantors. Carolyn Silver will share reflections on Jewish rituals around grief and bereavement. Together, we will consecrate the extended cemetery grounds, bless the new wing wall, and unveil four new Memorial Plaques.
