The Message this Week

Preaching Text: Acts 16:16-34

The ministry of the early church was messy. We start with the journey of the early church through the book of Acts. We pick up in chapter 16. Paul and Silas reluctantly perform an exorcism and are thrown in jail. In the middle of the night when they are praying and worshiping God, God opens the jail with an earthquake. But Paul and Silas do not leave right away, in order to save the jailer from ending his life. They show compassion on someone that did not show compassion to them. This weekend let us reflect on what it means to show compassion to someone that we don’t want to.

Holy God of resurrection, you call all of us beloved children of God. You bestow love and compassion to all of us. Guide us in showing compassion to those of us that we don’t want to show it to. Show us the value in all people. Amen.

WONDERING...

  • You have seen your servants through every trial. Stir up today the power of your Gospel to transform, renew and lead new believers to your community.
  • Free us from fossil fuels, single-use plastics, and other practices that cause harm. Sustain the hope and hard work of those who are finding new ways to protect all that you have made.
  • Teach us and our leaders to use our gifts for good and not for dishonest gain. Help us to focus our efforts on behalf of those in need instead of exploiting others for our own benefit.
  • Strengthen all who are in recovery, rehabilitation, or chronic treatment, and show them what hope looks like in the face of Christ.
  • Gladden our hearts with the power we have through you.
  • For those heading to Kentucky this Sunday on the Adult Mission Trip: Scott Ahlgrim, Steve Albertson, Craig & Joyce Elliott, Satu Kortelainen, Chris Meade, Debbie Mickelsen, Bob Parks, Don & Carolyn Story, Wende West, and Cindy Yeo.

Hear all our prayers, spoken and unspoken, and gather them into your loving arms, for the sake of our risen savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
