After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the East came to Jerusalem and asked, 'Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews, we saw His star in the East and have come to worship Him.

Matthew 2:1-2

The Wisemen, also called Magi, were well educated, wealthy men from the East. These men were very familiar with the scriptures and prophesies about the coming Messiah. The Wisemen, also being well versed in astronomy, knew the patterns and movements of the stars. So when they saw an unusual star rising in the East, it prompted them to follow it. I don't know if their quest was just curiosity about astronomy or if they felt a miraculous, divine leading. Either way, they were not disappointed. They found Jesus, and bringing Him expensive gifts, they knelt and worshiped Him. I believe that still today, it takes a wise man to worship our Savior and King: Jesus.
