Westover Hills Elementary School Community Meeting on Thursday

As many of you know, the Jahnke Road Improvement Project is underway. While this two-year project represents a tremendous investment in multimodal safety in the Jahnke Road Corridor, it also requires redesigning the Westover Hills Elementary School bus loop and student drop-off/pick-up area.

I have worked closely with Councilmember Sarah Abubaker to successfully ensure the City and RPS include funding for this crucial redesign in our FY27 budgets. After working closely with Timmons Group, we are pleased to announce that we have arrived at the final chapter of the "design phase," and now we need your feedback!

We will co-host a public meeting where Timmons will present three design options, providing community members the opportunity to ask questions and give feedback on their preferred option before the School Board makes a final decision in the coming months.

Meeting Details

Date: Thursday, November 5

Time: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Location: Westover Hills Elementary School Cafeteria

Here are a few additional notes:

  • Please consider reviewing this Project Overview, which includes the three design options, prior to the meeting.
  • Councilmember Abubaker will be providing refreshments from Y Tu Mama.
  • We will have activities for the kids, so please feel free to bring the entire family!
  • Please RSVP here by noon on November 5 so we can ensure we have enough food for everybody.
  • Please feel free to share these meeting details and RSVP form with any community members who may be interested in attending!

If you have any questions about this meeting, please just reply to me here, or email Councilmember Abubaker’s office (sarah.abubaker@rva.gov and timmy.siverd@rva.gov).

VCU's RTR Teacher Residency Turns 16!

In 2011-2012, the Richmond Teacher Residency Program prepared only secondary teachers and served only Richmond Public Schools. Now, RTR prepares secondary, elementary, early childhood, and special education teachers, and serves 27 school districts across Virginia.

I attended the celebration last week with Anne Holton (6th District Representative), Cheryl Burke (7th District Representative), and State Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg.
