Welcome Back

We can't wait to welcome students back to campus on Monday! This edition of the E-News contains of information for our families about the opening of school. We encourage you to read through it to clarify any questions you might have. #CardinalProud

Check out our Back to School Information Guide for answers to some of your questions!

Arrival and Dismissal

Arrival

Next week please give yourself plenty of time when headed to campus as we anticipate traffic patterns to be very heavy. Please review the campus map carefully. Students can be dropped off at the drop-off zone between the Parking Garage and Bus Lane. Sidewalks are paved all along S. Rice and Maple so that students can walk up to the school. Students may enter the building through the two entrances marked on the map. Bus riders enter through the bus entrance on Main Street. Doors will open daily at 8:00 am. After 8:30 am the only entrance students will be able to enter through is the Main Street entrance located off of S. Rice..

Parents, please do not attempt to pull into the parking garage to drop off a student. Parking in the garage is by permit only.

Dismissal

Students may exit the building through the doors to the main courtyard or the main entrance. Dismissal is at 4:00 pm. (This is a change from last year! ) Please arrange a pickup location with your child prior to drop off.

Student Schedules

On Monday morning all students will head to their 2nd period class when they arrive on campus. Student schedules are now available to view in PowerSchool. Student's will also receive their schedule via HISD email this weekend. If a student is unsure of how to check their HISD email or PowerSchool, please click here to learn how.

Our counselors worked hard over the summer to make sure all students were scheduled correctly. Please review the reasons below for submitting a course change request form.

  • Credit was received for summer school work and an adjustment is needed.
  • A class period is missing or repeated
  • A required English, Math, Science, or Social Studies class is missing!
  • A course need for graduation is missing.
  • The level of class you chose is incorrect. For example, you wanted to be in Pre-AP but were placed in Academic.

Reasons not to submit a course change request form:

  • I changed my mind and want to take a different class.
  • I want a different teacher or class period.
  • I want to be in my friend's class.

Additional information on course change requests can be accessed here.

Transportation Information!

Bus riders, please be aware that the HISD Transportation Department is still in the process of managing routing and scheduling, so it is possible that your bus might not be ready to pick you up for the first week of school. Bus route stops have changed from previous years. Click here to view bus route stops from HISD transportation. Please be patient and have a backup plan in case your bus does not show up for you during week one.

  • If you made your transportation request last school year (including new magnet students who clicked yes for transportation on the School Choice account), you should have received communication from the district regarding pick-up/drop-off location and time. If you did not receive any information by Wednesday, Aug. 7th, please contact Ms. Yin at yyin@houstonisd.org and include the student’s name and ID#.
  • If you have made the request recently, please know that the HISD Transportation Department takes 10 business days to process any requests. Students can visit office 1124 to inquire about bus information once school started.
  • If you want to make a request for bus transportation, please click here to see if you qualify for transportation and to submit a request. Please do not call and request for bus transportation as it is difficult to get all the information needed through a voicemail. Requests will not be processed by voicemail.

We highly recommend having a backup commute plan for the first two weeks of school as HISD is still working on routing the students.

If a device is out, it will be bagged and tagged. When a device is spotted, a student must drop the device into the bag and present their student ID. The device will be bagged and tagged or simply collected on the spot. There is a $15 fine that must be paid to recover the device in the Main Office at the end of the day.

Defined Autonomy

The Houston ISD released the Defined Autonomy Framework (DAF), which is a system designed to allow for flexibility and innovation at high-performing campuses while maintaining rigorous expectations for all schools.

Bellaire High School is categorized within the framework as a Level 3.

The linked document outlines the specific autonomies earned by the schools at each level. The greater the achievement and overall performance of a school, the more autonomous the school will be. The Defined Autonomy presentation that was shared at the Superintendent's Community Meeting is also linked here.

SDMC Nominations

The Shared Decision-Making Committee (SDMC) has been established on our campus to assist the principal. The committee meets for the purposes of implementing planning processes and site-based decision-making in accordance with Board policy and administrative procedure.

Bellaire High School is seeking nominations for community and business representatives to serve on the SDMC for the 2024-2025 school year.  We encourage you to submit your information if you are interested in serving next year!  Click here to access the SDMC Form.
