We Will Continue to Center Our Principles and Build Civic Power
November 6, 2024. John Quincy Adams, a founding father and President of our nation, counseled, "Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost."
Voters in this election surfaced one critical point: our leaders must adequately listen, understand, and represent our principles and our issues.
When we vote for a leader, we invest in a vision of a better future - valuing both identity and policy. The polls and data reveal our angst and pleas to be seen and heard. Over 70% of Americans support a ceasefire and redirecting tax dollars back into our nation. Over 74% across our nation want a compassionate and comprehensive immigration policy. More than 63% of us are worried about paying our bills and our nation’s economy. Polls communicate that we may each have a specific issue we champion, yet collectively, we stand with each other.
It is the candidates’ job to earn our votes. Kamala Harris lost sight of her base. The same American voters who heard the call for help in 2020 felt unheard and taken for granted in 2024. The Harris campaign, instead, embraced war hawks and policymakers who, for decades, pushed harmful policies in our nation and across the globe. No amount of campaign money can mask a perceived disregard for your voter base and core supporters.
We elect courageous advocates for policies that lead us toward shared values of justice, peace, and equity. Another great American, Dr. Martin Luther King, counseled, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
Today is November 6th. It is the day after. Our three branches of government may now be controlled or influenced by one party. We, the people, must be the checks and balances that our government may not have. We will continue striving for justice. We will keep fighting for peace. We will sustain protections for our most vulnerable. We will not be silent.
