Hotel Marcel - New Haven
Monday, Sept. 29 -- 10 a.m. - Noon
The Hotel Marcel in New Haven is the former Pirelli Tire building, designed by Marcel Breuer. Y’s Men and Westport architect, Bruce Becker, a green energy advocate, bought the building and launched it in May 2022 as the First Passive - Certified Hotel in the USA.
The Marcel is 100 percent solar powered, enough to provide all its electricity, heat, and hot water -- even the stoves and ovens in the kitchen are electric -- while the building produces net zero emissions.
It is a classic and a wonder to see and visit. We have arranged with Becker for a private tour of the hotel. They have an outstanding kitchen and restaurant so we can have lunch on site after the tour.
We can meet at exit 18 on I-95 at 9 AM to arrange carpooling.
Or people can drive directly. The address is:
500 Sargent Drive, New Haven, CT 06511.
LUNCH
We start the tour at 10:00 and will be finished in time for lunch at the hotel restaurant.
RESERVING
If you wish to go, send an email to Frank Wood. Indicate if you will bring a guest, stay for lunch, and want to drive or ride as a passenger. The only cost is for your lunch at the hotel.
Please respond to Frank Wood, Event Leader,
no later than Wed., Sept. 24.
