Welcome back to our 2024/25 CNSC season! After such a short and challenging year last season, I am very excited about the prospect of lots of snow and getting back on my skis this winter! A warm welcome to our new staff members, who are already hard at work to make your experience at our Club the best it can be.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to those who have already purchased your annual memberships—your confidence and support are very much acknowledged and appreciated!
We are also excited to explore a fat biking pilot project on some of our single-track trails. As we move into a time of uncertain climate change, it is important to diversify the use of our facilities to provide stability and alternate streams of revenue.
Please consider becoming a Skill Development Program (SDP) coach this year. SDP, otherwise known as Jackrabbits, is the foundation and future of CNSC. Coaching courses and support are provided—you just need to bring some basic ski skills and your enthusiasm for cross-country skiing. Please contact the General Manager for more information.
After a year of evaluating our options for rebuilding the picnic shelter at the gravel pit, we are looking forward to having our new, much-improved building completed this fall, weather permitting!
For those of you wondering what is going on with the gravel pit, which is currently filled with a big pile of gravel—don’t worry! It is part of our plan to have the highly-used gravel pit fully remediated and ready to go for this season.
The paved trail project is also nearing completion. Our athletic team and coaches at CNSC are very excited to be so close to using these trails for training and competition. While some sections of the trail are more challenging, we are considering additional recreational opportunities for this winter and next spring.
Thank you all for your patience during the construction of the paved trails. I know heavy equipment is not something we typically want to see at our ski club, but that’s how big projects get done. Everyone is doing their best to have the project completed as soon as possible.
Our Annual General Meeting is coming up on October 23, 7:00 pm at the Upper Lodge. Despite a challenging year, I am very grateful for the opportunity to have served as your President. Many thanks to the board members who stepped up and volunteered their time, passion, and experience: Tim Roots (VP), Gretchen Prystawik (Secretary), Shane Sienaert (Treasurer), Mike Duck (Competitions Director), Andrew Watkinson (Facilities Director), Paul Schuetz (Trails Director), Peder Nesset and Simone LaMarche (Programs Directors), Jim Burbee (Lands Tenure and General Director), and Lance McDonald (Past President). A big thank you as well to our General Manager, John Bowes, who manages to juggle all sorts of responsibilities and keep our Club running smoothly.
Our Nominating Committee member, Loraine Lavallee, will have nomination forms up on the website shortly. If you, or someone you know, would be interested in becoming a board member, please consider submitting a nomination. Thank you, Loraine!
Thank you once again for all your support and encouragement, and let’s all snow-dance our way to an awesome 2024/25 ski season!
