Superintendent's Weekly Message

We are pleased to share an update on the progress of the Measure HV bond program. We have taken significant steps over the past few months to ensure a strong foundation for upcoming projects. These include issuing Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for architectural and topographical services, conducting a Board workshop to begin project prioritization, and completing the first round of interviews for architectural services.

Looking ahead for the next three months, we will:

  • Secure architectural firm(s)
  • Engage the community on prioritization
  • Finalize the project prioritization process and schedule
  • Conduct a Board review and approval of Project Prioritization (Phase One)
  • Select specialized service consultant pools for topographical/geologic surveys, inspections, testing, CEQA, and hazardous materials consulting
  • Address HVAC projects at both View and Valley
  • Update the District’s eligibility in the State Facilities Program

Your support and engagement are key to the success of these projects. Stay informed by regularly visiting our Facilities Bond Program webpage for the latest updates on our ongoing progress. We remain committed to transparency and look forward to working together to enhance our schools.

Best,

Dr. Susan Wildes

Shoes & Socks Drive - Upcycle for a Greener Future

Help reduce waste and support sustainability by participating in the Shoes & Socks Drive with Hermosa’s Grades of Green Team. As part of our April environmental initiatives, they are collecting worn-out sneakers and socks to give them a second life instead of sending them to landfills. Collection bins will be available at Hermosa View, Vista, and Valley from March 31 to April 11. Please donate clean shoes and socks, as they cannot accept items with mud, grass, or gum. If you have questions or would like to get involved, contact Hermosa’s Grades of Green Co-Chairs Jessie Kernan and Julia Lau at gradesofgreenhb@gmail.com.

Hermosa Valley School Principal News

We have an exciting and productive spring at Hermosa Valley! Please take note of the important updates below.

Reminder: All incoming 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students must submit the Hermosa Valley Incoming Middle School 2025-26 Electives Selection Google Form. This form is only accessible via the student's school email. Currently, we are missing more than 20 submissions from each grade. The original deadline to submit your form was today, March 23rd, but we are extending it to Monday, March 24. Students who do not submit their selections will be assigned electives at our discretion. Parents/Guardians, please work with your student(s) to select their first and second choice electives for the 2025-26 school year and reference the Hermosa Valley Course Description Handbook 2025-2026 for all updated course offerings.

For all outgoing 8th graders, be sure to check out our HVS 8th Grade Website for the most up-to-date end-of-year information, including enrollment requirements for both MCHS and RUHS.

Lastly, we’re excited to announce that last Thursday, 32 teams of four signed up for Hermosa Valley’s first-ever Scholar Quiz, generously sponsored by Study Hut Tutoring, filling all available slots! We are working on a competition bracket, and matches will begin at lunch on Monday, March 31. Parents/Guardians, if you’re interested in supporting this exciting event, sign up for a volunteer slot.

Thank you for taking the time to review these important updates!

Warmly,
