What's happening this week:

So here we are 2 weeks into the football season and the Bears fans have given up, well, at least until next week where if they pull off a win there will be talk of the Super Bowl again. Man this must be a tough town to be a pro athlete in but it even tougher if you don't follow sports. I didn't see a minute of the Sunday night game and I can tell you that my Monday wasn't ruined because of it. I'll stick with my dragons on Sundays.

With all this warmer weather we are doing our best to keep as many of the summer favorites in the counter but as the seasons shift, so do the cooking habits and we do our best to make sure everything you buy from us is the freshest it can be, so if a product stops selling so much, even your favorite item, we do have to give it a break so we are not wasting food. Look at it this way, maybe you will find another favorite item to add to the dinner menu. We have A LOT of stuff to choose from!!

What is there to say about our Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts that has not already been said? They're fresh, perfectly sized and we even split them for you if you want. We already know that you know all that because you all but TONS of them. Well, they're on sale in Western Springs this week so don't miss out.

As of press time, the Marinated Boneless Country Ribs flavor has not yet been determined. It may be the new Barcelona Marinade (see Mike's sales below) or it could be something else entirely. What I do know, it will be delicious so come by this week and see what we have in store!!

Yes, you can still grill after Labor Day, especially when it is this nice and this week we have 2 great choices for you to pop on the grill.

First up, our Fresh Ground Chuck Burgers. There is nothing special about these burgers if you do not consider an amazing flavor special. I have truly marveled at how great our ground chuck burgers are even with nothing to season them or without cheese. Of course, we all know how great our ground chuck is normally but when it is shaped into a burger somehow it gets even better!!!

Next up is our newest marinade making its debut in the sales. Our Boneless Marinated Country Ribs have been a staple at Mike's but now we have the new Barcelona Marinade on them and they are better than ever!! This new marinade has a nice tangy paprika flavor that makes these pork chops just POP! Best on the grill for about 7-8 minutes per side but in the oven at 325 for 30-35 minutes would work just as well.

I hope that all of you trust me at this point. I would never steer you wrong but as an Irishman, my culinary opinions might be a little "bland", however I know meat and this week we have our Homemade Spaghetti Sauce. I do KNOW this tastes good and is packed with meat. So take it from this Irishman that our Spaghetti Sauce is the best!!

As I am sure I have mentioned before, after many years of working here and having lunch 6 days a week from our deli, sometimes things get a little repetitive with lunchmeat and cheese on bread, still good but just sometimes I get in a rut. Since moving over to Mike's a few years ago I found my "rut-buster" lunch, the Anti Pasta Salad! It has some of my most favorite things, cheese, olives (black and green!!), salami and tomatoes, so how can it not be good! I absolutely love this stuff and I am sure you will too!!
