SPARTAN SPOTLIGHTS

A Night to Remember: Celebrating Stewardship, Music, and Mission

Tonight, the Immaculata High School gymnasium will come alive with music, gratitude, and Spartan spirit as we gather for the annual Jazz Supper Club Stewardship Dinner — a joyful celebration of all those whose generosity helps shape the future of our parish and schools.

Guests will enjoy live jazz performed by our talented ICS and IHS student musicians, a delicious supper, and the return of the beloved Spartan Wine Pull — all in recognition of the philanthropic and volunteer leadership that sustains our mission of Faith, Scholarship, Service, and Friendship.

During the evening, we’ll also present the 2025 Spartan of the Year award to Michael Reno ICS ’83, IHS ’87 and Michelle Reno, honoring their unwavering commitment to our Campus Ministry and mission work, and their inspiring example of service rooted in faith.

Whether you’re joining us tonight or supporting from afar, thank you for being part of the Spartan story. Your investment in our students, faculty, and programs is deeply appreciated — and truly transformative.

Immaculata’s Once Shines in Spring Musical Tradition

Each spring, Immaculata High School’s Performing Arts Department proudly stages a full-scale musical production – a beloved tradition that has been uniting the Spartan community for decades. Students, faculty, families, and alumni alike look forward to the spring musical as a highlight of the school year. These productions are more than just shows; they are a community experience that showcases student talent, teamwork, and school spirit. From elaborate set builds to weeks of rehearsals, the spring musical is a labor of love that brings the Immaculata family together. This year’s choice of Once continued that legacy of excellence, inviting audiences into an intimate little theater experience filled with emotion and beautiful music.

Immaculata’s production of Once not only delighted local audiences but also earned widespread acclaim beyond the school’s walls. The show garnered an impressive eight nominations at the Central Jersey Marquee Awards, a regional program dedicated to celebrating excellence in high school musical theatre. These nominations spanned performance and production categories, reflecting the outstanding work of the entire cast and crew. In addition, Immaculata received a prestigious nomination at the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards, which are New Jersey’s statewide high school theater honors modeled after the Tony Awards. Earning a Rising Star nomination is a tremendous honor – it means Immaculata’s musical was among the very best in the state, showcasing the school’s top-tier performing arts program on a grand stage.

The multitude of nominations is a collective triumph for Immaculata’s students and educators. While the nominees in each category (pictured) represent excellence in their individual roles, the celebration is truly for the whole Immaculata community. Each student performer, stage crew member, musician, and director contributed to the success of Once, and together they have brought great pride to the school. The accolades from the Marquee Awards and Rising Star Awards highlight not only individual talent but also the strength of Immaculata’s arts tradition and the support of its community. In the glow of these achievements, Immaculata High School celebrates its spring musical as both a creative journey and a communal celebration – one that will be remembered for years to come.

PHOTO OF THE MONTH

A Tribute to Pope Francis

The Vatican has announced that the papal conclave to elect the next pope will begin on May 7, 2025, following the passing of Pope Francis on April 21 at the age of 88. The conclave will include 135 cardinal-electors representing 71 countries, with 108 of them appointed by Pope Francis—an enduring testament to his far-reaching influence on the College of Cardinals.

The process will open with a special Mass, after which the cardinal-electors will enter the Sistine Chapel, where they will be sequestered and take an oath of secrecy. Balloting will take place twice daily until a candidate secures the required two-thirds majority. The traditional signal of white smoke will indicate the election of a new pope; black smoke will signify that no decision has yet been reached.

In a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of Pope Francis, Immaculata High School has prepared a special memorial within the school chapel. At its center is a framed photograph of the late Holy Father, surrounded by candles and fresh flowers. This peaceful and prayerful space has become a place of reflection for students and faculty alike, who have gathered there to pray, remember, and offer their intentions in thanksgiving for a pontificate marked by humility, mercy, and hope.
