Gratitude, Growth, and Great Relationships: Supporting You to Reflect and Recharge

Hey Beginning Teachers 💛

As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s a great time to reflect on the power of connection in your classroom. When students feel valued and supported, they take risks, grow, and believe in what they can achieve. Every kind word, check-in, or smile builds trust and opens the door for learning.

We’re excited to continue supporting you as we head into December. This issue is full of resources to help you nurture relationships, inspire growth, and keep your classroom thriving. Thank you for all you do — every intentional moment matters, and you’re shaping futures every day.

With appreciation,

Chelsea Davis

Skill Builder

1 Skill, 4 Steps to Try It

This Month’s Focus: Reflect & Recharge

Take time to pause, reflect on your teaching, and restore your energy for the weeks ahead.

What it is:

Taking time to reflect and recharge helps you maintain your energy, gain perspective on your teaching, and return to the classroom feeling focused, motivated, and ready to connect with your students

Try It Out

Step 1: Reflect on Wins

  • List 3 moments from the past week where you felt proud, made a difference, or connected with a student.
  • These can be big or small — even a smile or a brief conversation counts!

Step 2: Identify Challenges

  • Write down 1–2 challenges you faced and what you learned from them.
  • Consider what strategies worked, what could be adjusted, and what support you might need.

Step 3: Recharge Your Energy

  • Choose 1 self-care action to do this week — something that restores your energy and mindset. Examples:
  • Take a 10-minute mindful walk
  • Journal or jot down thoughts after school
  • Connect with a mentor, friend, or colleague for support
  • Enjoy a hobby or activity that brings you joy

Step 4: Set a Small Goal

  • Pick 1 small goal for next week that focuses on your well-being or teaching growth.
  • Keep it achievable so it energizes you instead of adding pressure.

Tip: Keep this reflection in a notebook or digital journal to track your progress and notice your growth over time.

Self-Care & Wellness

Because you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Let’s be honest — the first years of teaching are full of highs and lows. Between lesson planning, navigating school routines, and supporting your students, it’s easy to forget the most important part of the equation: taking care of yourself matters, too.

This section is your monthly wellness check-in — short, simple, and created to help you stay grounded while growing.

Quick Self-Check: How Are You Really Doing?

Take a minute to reflect. Answer honestly — no one sees this but you:

  • 😴 Am I getting enough sleep most nights?
  • 🧠 Have I taken even 10 minutes for myself this week?
  • 💬 Am I talking to anyone about how I’m really feeling?
  • 🔁 Am I stuck in “survival mode” or creating a routine that works for me?

If most of your answers are “not really” — that’s okay. Start small. Check out our wellnes tip for this month below.

Self-Care & Wellness Tip: Weekly Wins Jar

A simple way to capture and celebrate daily successes, big or small, to reflect on your impact and recharge your energy each week.

How to Make It Happen This Week:

  • Set Up Your Jar: Find a small container, box, or even an envelope to serve as your Weekly Wins Jar. Keep it somewhere visible on your desk.
  • Daily Win Notes: Each day, write down one positive moment, accomplishment, or connection with a student on a small piece of paper and drop it in the jar.
  • Consistency Reminder: Schedule a specific time each day — before leaving school or after your last class — to reflect and jot down your win.
  • Celebrate at Week’s End: On Friday (or Sunday evening), read through all your notes. Take a moment to acknowledge your efforts, celebrate your impact, and recharge for the week ahead.

💌Ask Chelsea

Your safe space for real questions, honest answers, and a little bit of love and laughter.

We know the first years of teaching brings a lot of questions — some you're afraid to ask out loud, and some you didn’t even know you needed to ask.

That’s where Ask Chelsea comes in. Whether you’re wondering how to handle parent emails, set boundaries, survive dismissal duty, or just make it through the week — I’ve got you.

Each month, I’ll answer one real question from a beginning teacher. And yes — you can ask anonymously.

Got a Question?

Drop it here — big or small, silly or serious. I’ll pick one to answer in the next issue.
