This is not a recycled Musing, but even I feel like I’ve written something like this before. Even if that’s the case, it doesn’t matter as it must be told again. VCHS Saints have some of the highest participation rates in athletics and arts that I’ve known. And that’s a VERY good thing for their well-being and living out our trifecta mission of ‘mind, body, and spirit.’
A few months ago our students took a state survey and were asked about their participation in sports over the past twelve months. 92% answered yes. Another question expanded beyond sports and asked about participation in sports, band, drama, clubs, or student government at school during the last 12 months. 97% answered yes. We will work to increase the second one to 100%. These kind of percentages are far beyond the local, state, or national norms. But they are a VCHS trademark!
Oliver! will be performed over the next three days. 40% of our student body is involved. Think back to your own high school experience! 40%?! A special hats off to Theater Director Melinda Carlson (10th VCHS musical) and Heidi Cofelice with set props and design.
With spring CHSAA sports, Saints are participating in boys volleyball (launched at VCHS in 2022 with a current 5-2 conference record), girls soccer, and girls tennis (ranked #1 in Colorado out of 46 teams with an 8-0 record). And we have dozens of VCHS athletes on other local high school teams competing at high levels in baseball, girls golf, boys/girls lacrosse, and track and field.
What’s even more amazing are the students who are ‘doubling up’ in both Oliver! and a team sport or doing it in two sports! This is the culture at VCHS that we seek to nourish – high participation, teamwork, and well-roundedness.
Saints are on the move!
