Beaverton Bridge Update

The Region of Durham is progressing with temporary and permanent replacements of the Beaver River Bridge, located on Regional Road 15 west of Highway 12, in the Township of Brock. The old bridge will be replaced with a new structure and it is scheduled to commence construction in 2026 and be completed in 2027. In the interim, a temporary bridge is scheduled to be opened to traffic in mid-November of 2024.

The Region's contractor, Elirpa Construction and Materials Ltd., mobilized to the site on July 8th. The old bridge has been removed and the temporary bridge has been fabricated. Hydro relocations and the temporary bridge abutments have been completed. The temporary bridge components will begin arriving to the site on October 7th, with assembly and commencement of launching occurring over the two weeks following delivery.

Approvals for the temporary bridge are being obtained from Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) and Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO). The Region appreciates the support of our partners for their timely approvals to complete this important project for the community.

Please visit our website or The Regional Municipality of Durham for bi-weekly updates on this Regional project.

Cost-share support to farmers is available under the project categories of nitrogen management, cover cropping, and rotational grazing

To be eligible to receive OFCAF funding, the proposed project must be new to the acres included in the application. A new practice is one that has not been previously implemented. Cover Cropping:

  • Planting an eligible cover crop on new acres that will be left undisturbed over the winter (i.e., the crop will not be chemically or physically terminated in the fall or winter)

Nitrogen Management:

  • Use of synthetic fertilizer substitutes/organic amendments including manure and compost
  • Equipment purchases to support injection of manure on new acres
  • Purchase of dual action nitrogen stabilizers
  • Development of a written crop nutrient plan
