Michigan CPL Requirements Matter
Michigan law requires three hours of live-fire instruction on a shooting range as part of CPL training. Proper instruction protects both the student and instructor and ensures you meet all legal requirements.
Training Saves Lives
As professional instructors often remind students:
Get the training you need before you ever need to use it. Every year, accidents and injuries occur because individuals lack proper firearm handling, storage knowledge, or defensive training. The goal is not simply to obtain a CPL — it is to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to carry responsibly and safely.
Considering Non-Firearm Protection Options
For many people, pepper spray or a TASER can be effective alternatives to carrying a firearm. These options generally require less training, carry lower legal and liability risks, and provide a way to defend yourself while reducing the chance of causing permanent injury or unintended consequences.
At UPA, we encourage students to carefully consider which personal protection option best fits their comfort level, lifestyle, and willingness to train. The most important goal is choosing a tool — and training — that allows you to protect yourself safely and responsibly.
We look forward to helping you build confidence, safety, and skill.
