Ways to Give:
Planned Giving Through Charitable Gift Annuities
Individuals over 65 years old who want to support the Netherland-America Foundation can do so while simultaneously create a dependable source of fixed income or themselves in the retirement years by creating a charitable gift annuity.
Gift annuities are funded with a one-time major gift of cash, IRA assets, securities or appreciated property. Based on a donor’s age at the time of the gift, a fixed monthly payout is sent for the rest of your life. At the end of your life, the NAF receives the remainder of the gift. Charitable gift annuities can be set up as an individual or as a couple.
In establishing a charitable gift annuity:
- You receive fixed, steady income for life from the annuity account
- Part of the income is tax-free
- The remainder of annuity funds is gifted to NAF
For more information about the benefits of setting up a charitable gift annuity or other planned giving vehicles, please contact your financial advisor or Laura Rosenthal, NAF Development Manager, at lrosenthal@thenaf.org.

Vermeer’s Secrets Revealed
George Washington University- Corcoran Hall,
Washington
Only about 35 paintings by Johannes Vermeer are known today. The National Gallery owns four works by or attributed to this beloved 17th-century Dutch artist: Woman Holding a Balance, A Lady Writing, Girl with the Red Hat, and Girl with a Flute. For decades, conservators, scientists, and curators at the National Gallery have conducted research into this quartet of paintings as well as two enigmatic works that are now considered to be 20th-century forgeries.
Dr. Betsy Wieseman, Curator and Head of the Department of Northern European Paintings at the National Gallery of Art, will tell us how imaging technology and microscopic examination have served to illuminate—and sometimes revolutionize—our understanding of how Vermeer achieved the compelling effects of his paintings’ light-filled moments of quiet solitude.
