Maundy Thursday and The Watch 2022
|
|
In 2019, Bishop Jim planned something a little different for Maundy Thursday. COVID changed the plan but not the value, so we’re going to try it out.
In the early Church, Eucharist was celebrated as a part of a larger meal, called a love (Agape) meal that was held in the homes of the members of the local church. We are planning something similar for Maundy Thursday (Thursday in Holy Week).
We will gather in the Hawes’ Room for a simple soup potluck meal, Eucharist, and foot-washing ceremony at 6 pm on April 14th.
After remembering the last supper by breaking bread together, we will then proceed to the Church to strip the altar and sanctuary, prepare the altar of repose in our little Garden of Gethsemane and begin our watch with Jesus. I look forward to seeing you all there!
If you wish to bring something to share in our Agape meal, please sign up here:

“Will you not watch with me one hour?
In the Garden of Gethsemane Jesus suffered anxiety to the point of bleeding from his pores.
When he sought the consolation of his friends during this time of great distress, he found they had fallen asleep instead of comforting him.
Our tradition is that we keep watch with Jesus, honoring his Real Presence in the Eucharistic Bread we will place on an altar of repose after the Maundy Thursday service.
I ask that you each consider taking an hour or two out of your night to keep watch with Jesus and assure he does not find himself alone at Trinity Church.
It is a sacred sacrifice you will find very rewarding.
