You asked Missoula, and Frame of Mind has answered! Black Ink deco papers are here! Made by both man and machine, these papers are sourced from all over the world: India, Japan, Italy, Egypt, Nepel and in some cases right here in the US.
Many of the papers are handmade by village artisans with renewable materials such as Lokta, mulberry, bamboo, papyrus and cotton rag. In some cases, banana leaves, mango leaves and even newspaper clippings are added to create beautiful patterns and textures. Applications range from mixed media, card making, chine colle, and collage to paper lanters and sculpture.
Some Black Ink papers feature a variety of beautifully detailed embossed patterns as well as silk screened patterns like fish, dragons, and spiderwebs. Others are beautifully marbled using a combination of water and metallic paints. Translucent Unryu or "cloud dragon" paper comes in a range of colors and have twisting strands of mulberry fiber throughout. "Amate Latice" paper is handmade in Mexico from Amate bark using traditional, 3000 year old Mesoamerican techniques.
