God's In-breaking Kingdom

Dear God,

We thank you for bringing us together to ponder how we can be active and loyal members of both God's in-breaking kingdom and the political world that we humans have created. As we participate in both worlds, it may be useful for us to paraphrase Paul: "There is no American or merciless Indian savage, no Democrat or Republican, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." This may help us to pursue, individually and together, the public virtue that our Founders felt was so necessary to our democracy. Amen.

Gifts for Graduating High Schoolers

Graduating high schoolers: Did you pick up your senior gift? If not, you can pick it up in the youth room on the third floor during business hours or on Sunday morning.

Brunch for Raintree Teens

On Saturday, a brunch was held for the teens of Raintree Children & Family Services, one of our community ministry partners, hosted by SCAPC member Ebie Strauss at The Chickory House. Self-esteem was the goal; fun was the result! SCAPC Presbyterian Women gave each participant a copy of Theo of Golden. In the book, author Allen Levi captures kindness and affirms the fact that all humans and their self-worth matter.

YAF to Tipitina's Free Music Friday

Join the Young Adults and Families as we head together to Free Music Fridays at Tipitina's (501 Napoleon Avenue) on Friday, June 26 to hear Stooges Brass Band and Very Cherry. Doors open at 8 and music starts at 9. This event is for ages 21+. Email caitlin@scapc.org with any questions.

FAITH250

Adult Sunday School Class

May 31 - June 28 | 8:30 a.m. | Phifer Library

Faith250 is a program that invites faith leaders and communities across the country to form clusters of congregations to act as sacred spaces for listening to one another, clarifying our shared civic values, and celebrating our hopes for America.

Upcoming Topics:

  • June 21: America the Beautiful, led by Robert Edgecombe
  • June 28: The Gettysburg Address, led by Chris Currie

Kids Learn About the Declaration of Independence

Last Sunday at their summer program during 9:30 worship, our kids learned about the Declaration of Independence, mirroring the adult’s Faith250 Sunday School class on the same topic. The kids each colored pieces of collaborative art with the words “All men are created equal." We talked about how each one of us is important. We learned that we need all of our friends, no matter what they look like, sound like, or how different they may seem, because each of us brings something special to the table.

The Latest at Aden

Last week at the Aden Program for Elder Care, we enjoyed a clay craft project and a presentation by SCAPC member Gail Kaliszeski on her recent trip to Scotland.

We Love Your Postcards!

Thank you to all who have sent us postcards sharing where you've seen God this summer! Shown here are cards from the Fleshman family's trip to Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, the Egan family's visit to Sainte Chapelle in Paris, Jacob Bruno and Rachel Judson's trip to the Netherlands, and Louellen and Darryl Berger's visit to the lighting of the cross on the Sagrada Familia.

Send us a postcard or bring one to church to let us know where you've been moved by the spirit! We will share them on the bulletin board in Frampton Fellowship Hall.
