The Fairfield County Ping Pong Committee has announced that the first Senior Center Open will hold a championship match in June. The finals will take place in late June or early July.

Entrants must live in Westport or Weston, belong to either the Westport or Weston Senior Center and be over 65 in age. The entry fee is $10.00.

Meanwhile, the Y's Men Ping Pong Group has openings for several new players. They play every Monday from 2:30 to 4:00 pm at the Westport Center for Senior Activities.

If you are interested, just show up. For additional information about Y's Men Ping Pong or about the Senior Center Open, call Steve Eliot at 203-957-5676.

Y's Men Visit Wave AeroSpace to See Drone Demonstration

A group of Y's Men visited the Drone Facility of Wave AeroSpace to see an exciting demonstration of the latest in drone technology. More than 50 members and guests attended.

Mark Strauss, CEO, provided an amazing update on Drone operations. He had spoken to the Y's Men at a regular Thursday meeting earlier this season.

The tour concluded with a luncheon at the Little Pub in Stratford by the Sound.

Y's Men's 2025 Memorial Day Parade Float

Wins Best in the Parade...Again!

The "Andrews Sisters" (left to right: Linda Gilmore, Kitty Sang, and Carin Friedag) perform on the Y's Men float which won the award for Best Overall Float in the Parade.

After months of preparation, a week of preliminary construction, a weekend of building and casting the participants, the Y's Men float was ready to appear in this year's Memorial Day Parade. Nearly 100 Y's Men and five stunning women brought home the float's message highlighting the USO's contribution to the US military.

The Y's Men float was named Best Overall Float in the Parade. See for yourself by clicking here to watch a video that captures the genesis and execution of this year's award-winning float.

Y's Men Military History Group Announces Future Plans

Fresh off its June 2 meeting where Y's Man Paco Sabin facilitated a discussion covering the military and political history of the Spanish Armada, the Military History Group (formerly the Military Discussion Group) reported several changes.

Besides the name change, it was announced that Y's Man Mark Perlman will chair the Group through May 31, 2026 and will be followed in that role by Y's Man Paul Rohan. The Group will meet on the first Monday of each month with the next meeting on July 7 (topic to be announced) and the August meeting on Monday, August 4 with Paul Rohan facilitating a discussion on "U.S. and Soviet Military Missions in Germany after World War II up to the fall of the Soviet Union."

For additonal information, contact Mark Perlman at firstdiv@optonline.net or 203-895-9493.

Author Ted Aldrich Guest at Non-Fiction Book Club July 9

The Y's Men Non-Fiction Book Club has invited the entire membership to attend what it expects to be a different and exciting meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at 4:30 pm in room 109 at the Saugatuck Congregational Church. It will be the first time that an author will be part of the program at a Club meeting.

Ted Aldrich, author of "The Partnership: George Marshall, Henry Stimson, and the Extraordinary Collaboration That Won World War II," will be the featured guest at the meeting. He spoke about the book at a Y's Men regular Thursday morning meeting in April.

Because seating is limited, contact Y's Man Jeff Schwartz by phone or text message at 201-787-0654 if you plan to attend. Y's Men do not have to be a member of the Club to be at the meeting.

According to a posting in "06880," a meeting this Wednesday (June 18 at 7:30 pm) of Westport's Parks & Recreation Commission includes a special agenda item to consider a request to name the Compo Beach Pickleball courts in honor of Y's Man Tom Lowrie.

Tom, 96, stepped down last month as Westport's "pickleball ambassador" but continues to be an advocate for the sport he helped popularize.

Something Different for Y's Men at The Westport Library

Summer Reggae Dance Party

With Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads

After honoring the legendary Keith Richards in March (yes, that Keith Richards), The Westport Library rocked out as the World's Loudest Library during four days of concerts in April.

Now, Verso Studios at The Westport Library and DinkinEsh Presents keep that fun VersoFest vibe going with Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads ... for a you-can't-miss, you-gotta-be-there reggae concert event!

It will be Friday, June 27, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Click here to buy tickets (at $37.50) and for more information.

For a magical Friday evening, Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads will take the Library's Trefz Forum by storm with their trademark fun Caribbean swagger and bouncy reggae rhythms. Get up and hit the dance floor with the funkiest versions of Talking Heads and other reggae tunes you'll ever groove to at this crazy Summer Reggae Dance Party!

Doors open 6:00 pm with a set from Tim “Journeys by DJ” Fielding. Mystic takes the stage at 7:30 pm.

Also at 6:00 pm, Khemi's Vegan Cuisine Mobile Eatery will be set up in the Library parking lot for those looking for something delicious before they head into the show.
