Dear Friends and Members of the Chamber,

One of the unexpected joys of this World Cup season has been watching international visitors delight in the simple pleasures of American culture, from warm hospitality and classic diners to bold barbecue, ice-cold drinks, and yes, even ranch dressing.

Beyond the matches themselves, it is often these quintessential American experiences, along with the friendliness of our people, that leave the strongest impression. Seeing our traditions through someone else’s eyes reminds us of the magic in the familiar. This moment offers a chance to rediscover the local flavors, connections, and everyday pleasures that make Los Gatos such a special place.

As World Cup festivities continue across the Bay Area, Los Gatos is embracing the spirit of the tournament in ways that feel both festive and distinctly local. A number of businesses are joining in with themed menus, specials, and game viewing opportunities. From game-day bites at Double D’s to festive promotions at Campo di Bocce, there are many ways to celebrate with fellow fans.

And if you are tempted to indulge in some of the American comfort foods international visitors have been raving about, Los Gatos delivers, from classic diner favorites at Los Gatos Cafe to Oak & Rye’s Coach Goni pizza with its signature buttermilk ranch sauce, Mexican favorites at Zona Rosa and Andale Mexican Kitchen, and barbecue staples at The Cats and Los Gatos Meats & Smokehouse.

As you enjoy all that summer in Los Gatos has to offer, our new Los Gatos Gift Card continues to build momentum, now accepted at more than 30 local businesses and growing. Keep an eye out for “Accepted Here” window clings appearing soon in storefronts.

Next Thursday, July 2, I invite you to join us downtown for GOLD Thursday, part of our summer series celebrating community connection and support for local businesses. Families can enjoy free face painting and fresh-spun organic cotton candy, while adults 21 and over can sip and stroll with to-go alcoholic beverages from participating restaurants, all while enjoying live music and the vibrant energy of downtown. Advocacy Alert

State: California Packaging Law Faces Legal Challenge

California’s sweeping packaging reduction law, SB 54, is facing a multistate legal challenge, with industry groups warning it could raise packaging and shipping costs statewide. If upheld, small businesses could face higher operating costs and supply chain adjustments over the next 12 to 18 months. Click here and here for more information.

State: New Food Allergen Disclosure Rules Take Effect July 1

California’s new ADDE Act will require restaurant chains with 20 or more locations to disclose the top nine major allergens on menus beginning July 1, making California the first state to adopt this standard. Most independent Los Gatos restaurants are exempt, but that exemption does not remove their responsibility to accurately communicate about allergens and help prevent avoidable food safety risks. The law may also raise customer expectations for clearer allergen disclosure. Click here for more information.

GOLD Thursdays is a monthly, business-led downtown community experience designed to encourage connection while supporting local businesses.

Stop by to enjoy complimentary face painting from 5 to 7 PM in the Automobuild breezeway and fresh-spun cotton candy (it's also organic and all natural) from 5 to 7 PM at Grays Lane or while supply lasts. Groove to the live music and an evening of strolling, shopping, dining, and connecting in downtown Los Gatos.

Taste of Los Gatos - Now Accepting Applications

Taste of Los Gatos returns Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon to 5:00 PM, bringing thousands downtown for an afternoon of food, wine, music, and community in a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.

Calling Downtown Merchants & Local Wineries!

Downtown Chamber merchants interested in hosting a winery and local wineries interested in pouring are also invited to apply.
