Cranial Nerve Month!

🧋 From seeing and smelling… to chewing, swallowing, facial expression, hearing, and even balance, your 12 cranial nerves play a vital role in how your brain communicates with your body every single day.

These nerves help you track movement with your eyes, interpret sound, taste your food, move your tongue, regulate facial muscles, and maintain coordination. They’re constantly sending messages back and forth between your brain and key structures in your head, neck, and beyond, often without you even realizing it. 🧠

As chiropractors, we focus on supporting the nervous system as a whole. The spine protects the brainstem and spinal cord, which work closely with these cranial nerves. When communication flows clearly and efficiently, your body is better equipped to adapt, regulate, heal, and function at its best.

Healthy communication = better function.

And that’s what we’re all about. 💪

Brain and Body

✨ Sympathetic vs. Parasympathetic ✨

What's the difference?

✨The goal isn’t to eliminate stress, it’s balance. When your nervous system can shift smoothly between these two states, your body functions at its best!

Chiropractic care helps support healthy nervous system communication so your body can better adapt to daily stressors.

Did you know some cranial nerves play a key role in keeping your body calm and balanced? Cranial nerves III, VII, IX, and X carry parasympathetic signals that help slow your heart, support digestion, and promote rest and recovery. ❤️

Meanwhile, the sympathetic system—your body’s “fight or flight” response—mostly comes from the spinal cord but interacts with these nerves to prepare you for action when needed. Healthy cranial nerve function helps your nervous system stay in balance, so your body can recover, function optimally, and handle stress more effectively. ✨

How Can Chiropractic Adjustments Affect Your Nervous System? 🧠✨

A study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine explored how specific chiropractic adjustments might influence the autonomic nervous system (the part of your nervous system that helps control things like stress responses, heart rate, and relaxation.)

Researchers compared adjustments to the cervical (neck) versus thoracic (mid-back) spine in healthy adults, and found early evidence suggesting that neck adjustments may be linked with responses associated with the “rest and digest” (parasympathetic) side of the nervous system, while mid-back adjustments may be linked with the “fight or flight” (sympathetic) side.
