Elks of the Month

The month of April’s winners are Kelly Shapleigh and Kyle McLaughlin.

Kelly is a hardworking and well rounded student who is involved in a number of extracurricular activities. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, the Writing Center and is deeply involved in our Unified Basketball team. She displays leadership qualities by serving as secretary in both the French National Honor Society and Best Buddies. Through her service and involvement, she fosters a more inclusive school and community environment. This fall, Kelly plans on attending the University of Connecticut.

Kyle is a hardworking and dedicated student who impacts BMHS in a positive way. Kyle has been a cornerstone of our musical theater program, devoting countless hours to his skills as both an actor and vocalist. During his time here at the high school, he has made contributions to the Billerica Beat, our weekly school TV production which has given him a platform to channel his creativity and engage with the broader community. Kyle plans on continuing his education at Berklee College of Music this fall.

Please join us in congratulating Kelly Shapleigh and Kyle McLaughlin as the month of April's ELKS Students of the month.

BMHS Students Return Home

As classrooms reopen this week, hallways will buzz with stories from students who participated in three enriching travel programs during the break. Groups ventured to New York City, Italy, and France, bringing back valuable experiences and memories that will last well beyond their high school years.

A Cultural Journey Through New York City

A group of 50 students explored the cultural treasures of New York City under the guidance of chaperones Shawn Landry, Brian Flanagan, Josh Spirn, Kim Barbaro, and Colleen Altobelli. Their itinerary included visits to two of the city's premier art institutions: The Met Cloisters Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in medieval European architecture and art at The Cloisters, followed by exploring the vast collections at the Met, spanning thousands of years of human creativity from around the world.

Italian Adventure: From Ancient Ruins to Coastal Trails

Another group of BMHS students embarked on a journey through Italy, led by teachers Jill MacInnis and Kristen Yohn. Their adventure took them through Naples, Matera, Sorrento, Pompeii, and the island of Capri.

The Italy trip featured a remarkable variety of experiences, including hiking the breathtaking "Path of the Gods" along the Sorrento coast and climbing the famous Mount Vesuvius. Students also gained hands-on cultural knowledge through learning about olive oil production and mastering the art of making authentic Neapolitan pizza.

"It was an amazing experience for the students and a great trip overall!" remarked Ms. MacInnis, highlighting the educational and personal growth opportunities provided by the journey through Italy's rich cultural landscape.

French Exchange: Building International Connections

The third group participated in BMHS's exchange program with our partner school in Rouen, France. Led by Madame Bynoe, the students experienced a comprehensive tour of France's most iconic landmarks and historical sites.

Their itinerary included visits to Paris, Versailles, the D-Day Beaches in Normandy, the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Parc Astérix (a popular French theme park), Mont Saint-Michel, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, and the famous Champs-Élysées.

This exchange program not only allowed students to practice their French language skills in real-world settings but also fostered cultural understanding and international friendships through direct engagement with their French peers.

Adopt a Billerica 2025 Senior

This Facebook group was created with the intention of participating in the “Adopt a Senior” event that many surrounding towns have taken part in. In this event, the whole Billerica community comes together to acknowledge the graduating seniors’ achievements with graduation gifts. The event was very successful last year with more than 120 graduating students adopted.

This program is available to any high school senior living in Billerica.

Student Travel

Dear families,

We’re going to Portugal in Spring 2026, and you’re invited!

We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/69b3je3

When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.

In this info session, we’ll talk about:

  • How this opportunity will benefit your student
  • What we’ll see and do on our trip
  • Everything that’s included in this experience
  • How your child can earn academic credit
  • How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
  • How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period

There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
