From My Desk to Your Inbox
Welcome to the May edition of the Community Connection. This month's edition begins with a business highlight of Apex Skin, a growing business in Landerbrook's Corporate Park. Apex Skin is a dermatology and skin surgery center committed to doing business with integrity and excellence. I am happy to report that this growing business chose to stay in the city and build a new headquarters on Landerbrook Drive, next to the post office. Read more about Apex Skin and what they are doing below.
The Mayfield Heights Police Department has been named the Police Agency of the Month by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police. Our police department is committed to building relationships with the residents and businesses through community outreach programs. I am proud of our police department, its leadership, and the commitment of every officer to make this city safe so it can thrive. Read more about the police department below.
Many youth, family, and senior activities begin this month. The Parks & Recreation brief features fun activities for each category that you will not want to miss. Something else you do not want to miss is the Summer Fun edition of City Focus. Look for it in mailboxes in mid-May. The Summer Fun edition has a pull-out calendar with all the programs and events for the season. There is something for everyone to do this summer in the city!
Please join me for the annual Memorial Day service on Monday, May 30th, at 10:00 AM with special guest speaker Michael Harvey, Chief Bailiff for Lyndhurst Court. Michal will be speaking about his experience as a sergeant in the army and now as a chief bailiff. The Police Department Honor Guard will also participate in this special service to honor those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.
Lastly, we said goodbye to the Ross C. DeJohn Community Center on April 26th. The community center served our residents well over the past 45 years. Although it was sad to see the building razed, I can not help but be excited about the new aquatic & community center that will begin construction soon in the same area. See the video below of the DeJohn Community Center, and look for updates on the new aquatic & community center project on the city's website.
Have a great May!

Happy Retirement
Tom Jamieson, Building Department
Building Director Thomas Jamieson retired from his position on March 31, 2022, after 15.5 years with our City. Tom came to us with years of experience as a union Plumber, Building Inspector, and Building Commissioner in other northeast Ohio communities.
The department saw many changes and oversaw countless large and small projects during his tenure. Some of the changes included a building software upgrade, payment by credit card, return of the sidewalk inspection program, and enhancement of the rental property and exterior home maintenance programs.
The City of Mayfield Heights thanks Tom for his dedicated service to our community and extends our best wishes for many years of good health and happiness in his retirement.
Welcome
Braden Thomas, Building Department
It is a pleasure to announce that Braden Thomas was appointed as Building Director on April 11, 2022. From his work in other northern Ohio communities, Braden brings years of experience and vision essential to meeting the challenges of managing a Building Department. He is committed to effectively establishing departmental policies that will accurately meet the needs of the community and will maintain the highest level of safety standards.
The City of Mayfield Heights welcomes Braden to our community. We wish him a long and successful career.

Honoring the Fallen
and Those Who have Served
In 2021, Ohio lost five law enforcement officers in the line of duty. On May 5, 2022, the 34th Ohio Peace Officers Memorial Ceremony took place in London, Ohio, to honor the sacrifices of these heroes – and the men and women who fell before them. The Mayfield Heights Police Honor Guard participated in the Ceremony, along with Attorney General Dave Yost, the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, and law enforcement officers throughout the state.
The Ohio Fallen Officers Memorial Wall, on the grounds of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA), in Richfield, Ohio, bears the names of the 814 law enforcement officers who have died on duty since 1823. The eternal flame at the memorial's center symbolizes our commitment never to forget these officers and is a poignant reminder of the risks that the men and women behind the badge face daily.
The Mayfield Heights Police Honor Guard will participate in the Memorial Day Service at City Hall in the east parking lot on May 30th, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for our country and freedom.
