OCTOBER 16, 2026

Dear JHCS Families,

We’ve had an excellent week on campus with two major events that brought our community closer together. On Tuesday, we held our first ever grades 6-12 Town Hall as we welcomed two members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to campus for a one-of-a-kind concert just for our JHCS students and staff. With Yuan-Qing Yu playing violin and Larry Neuman on the viola, the duo entertained us with pieces by Mozart and Bach. Having students from 11-18 years old sit for this kind of music for 45 minutes was a risk, especially since the performance was in the Commons in the new MS facility, which remains under construction. Our students were excellent audience members and were treated to a concert from world-renowned artists at the apex of their profession. This event gave us the second opportunity in two weeks for our MS and US buddies to be together and get to know each other a bit better. One of the benefits of a multi-division school is that our older students can develop as leaders while our younger students have role models, and this has played out a couple of times recently.

The US held its annual Multicultural Potluck lunch yesterday, which was another unifying and inclusive moment for JHCS. The highlight was certainly the many varied dishes that students and families prepared in celebration of their heritage–we all ate well! The next best moment came when the US staff performed our annual dance routine, and before we were done with our, um, precision choreography, the entire student body joined us for a mosh pit for the ages. Before we even knew what was happening, every US student and teacher was dancing (thrashing?) away in the middle of the Commons, a scene none of us will soon forget.

We have our first Student/Parent/Teacher conferences on Monday and Wednesday for all families in grades 6-12. These conferences are student led and student centered, so we ask that you schedule a time when your student is able to attend, and we look forward to seeing all of you on campus on either Monday or Wednesday afternoon and evening. The signups are still open, and they appear at the top of each divisional news document, linked below.

Have a great weekend,

Ted

Information for Families

Upcoming Author Event at JHCS

JHCS is pleased to host author Mathilde Ross, a Senior Staff Psychiatrist at Boston University Student Health Services, on tour for her new book How to Thrive at College: A Guide to the Ups and Downs of Mental Health on Campus (April 2026). A project that began as a NYT Op/Ed piece, the book takes readers behind the doors of Dr. Ross' university office to share insights about mental health on college campuses.

JHCS is pleased to welcome anyone in the wider Jackson/Teton Valley communities to this author event on Wednesday, November 4 at 5:30pm in the JHCS Main Campus Commons.

School Communications Reminders

Attendance Communications

Families, we remind you and kindly request that you email or call the attendance office as early in the day as possible if your student will be out with an unplanned absence for illness or otherwise. Ensuring all students are where they are expected to be is a major safety priority each morning, so we ask that you make this communication at or before 8:30am: the earlier the better! (733-5427: US front desk ext 4000, MS front desk ext 4001 OR email USattendance@jhcschool.org or MSattendance@jhcschool.org) THANK YOU!!

Subscribe to Emergency Texts from JHCS

This is a final reminder that JHCS uses texts to update families in the case of an emergency. Texts will be used ONLY in the case of emergency notifications—never for marketing or any other purpose. The school will also still use email.

Some of you have not yet subscribed your phone number for texts, so I want to offer the sign-up link one more time. If you choose to subscribe using this link, please note that you must provide the same email address you've given JHCS as preferred contact so that Constant Contact merely adds your phone number into our existing parent contact lists. When you subscribe, you will receive a welcome, "opt in" text, and you must reply YES; otherwise, your registration will remain pending. Please reach out to Grace Tirapelle with any questions or to confirm your registration (gtirapelle@jhcschool.org).

Reminder from the Business Office: Wyoming ESA

Families, we continue to receive ESA funds in batches and post those funds to your Grizzlink tuition accounts as soon as they are received by the school.

You may have received an email when your credits were posted to your ESA account in Odyssey. Please note that while you are free to choose any education or marketplace provider of your choice when determining how to allocate your ESA funds, you MUST log into Odyssey, go into the Wallet, and elect where your funds will go. Here is the link to your Wallet. Please contact our CFO, Ian Miller (imiller@jhcschool.org), if you need guidance with this process.
