November 21, 2025

Dear Residents,

Just as we were about to go to “print” this afternoon, we received word that Governor Hochul has signed the Orangetown Preservation Bill — a piece of legislation we have been working toward for the last few years with the goal of preserving Orangetown’s open space, parkland and historic properties. It seems our persistence has paid off.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the bill’s sponsors, Assemblyman Aron Wieder and Senator Bill Weber, for their steadfast partnership and for helping bring this across the finish line. Their support made all the difference.

Well, the holidays are officially upon us, and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, tomorrow is the perfect time to stop by the Pearl River Farmers Market — the final day of the season — to pick up homemade sourdough bread, pastries, a pie, or something special to say “cheers” with!

Looking to get into the holiday spirit of giving? Stop by a guest bartending event to help raise funds for the 2026 Penguin Plunge children and their families, starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow at O’Grady’s Castle. Yours truly will be behind the bar from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. While I would love to serve you and watch my tip cup fill to the brim to support these families facing serious medical challenges, there will also be a great lineup of guest bartenders joining in! For details, see the flyer below.

At this week’s Town Board Meeting, Superintendent of Highways James Dean presented his 2025 Highway Awards. He recognized employee anniversaries, presented beautification awards, and acknowledged community clean-up efforts. It was nice to see those who do their part to keep Orangetown tidy and beautiful receive well-deserved recognition.

After such a busy Saturday, you will definitely not want to cook breakfast Sunday morning, so why not stop by the Sparkill Fire Department for their famous pancake breakfast? Remember, there are no calories during the holidays. 😊

Whatever you plan for the weekend, I hope it’s a great one.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

Congratulations to Blauvelt Dunkin' on their Grand Re-Opening! Although Supervisor Kenny was unable to attend, Carmel Reilly from her staff, who proudly hails from Blauvelt, was there to present the new owners with a certificate on behalf of Orangetown.

Pearl River Food Truck Festival

The first-ever Pearl River Food Truck Festival was a huge success, no doubt in part to Mother Nature giving us a beautiful day. With a great lineup of food trucks, the Pearl River Farmers Market, music and perfect weather, how could it not be a fantastic day? We are looking forward to building on this year’s success for next year.

Tappan Fire Department Annual 5K

The Tappan Fire Department held their annual 5K run/walk on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Supervisor Kenny was happy to participate, despite the challenge of Christine Lane. Congratulations to all those who crossed the finish line!

With millions hitting the roads this coming week, let’s make sure everyone gets to the table safely! Before you load up the turkey and head out:

Quick Vehicle Checklist (takes 10 minutes, saves lives):

  • Tires: Check pressure (including spare) and tread depth. Cold weather drops PSI fast!
  • Brakes: Listen for squeaks/grinding — get them checked if anything feels off.
  • Lights: All headlights, brake lights, and turn signals working? Ask someone to walk around while you test.
  • Wipers & fluid: Winter mix in the washer tank — not summer fluid that freezes.
  • Battery: Cold kills weak batteries. If your car is slow to start now, it may leave you stranded.
  • Fluids: Oil, coolant, and brake fluid topped off.
  • Emergency kit: Blanket, jumper cables, flashlight, water, snacks, phone charger, and a small shovel/kitty litter for traction.

Safe Driving Tips for the Holiday Rush:

  • Leave early — traffic peaks Wednesday afternoon and Sunday evening.
  • Buckle everyone, every seat, every trip.
  • Zero tolerance for impaired driving — designate a sober driver or use a rideshare.
  • Slow down in wet/icy conditions — stopping distances double in rain.
  • Put the phone down — distracted driving crashes spike on holidays.

Let’s keep the only thing “stuffed” this week the turkey — not the ER!

Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving!
