New Portfolio Spotlights

Nutrition Security

The Advancing Food and Nutrition Security research portfolio is dedicated to advancing food and nutrient security across the U.S., Canada, and globally. This work centers on conducting evidence-based research to identify nutrient gaps, better understand foods and dietary patterns that can help close those gaps, and develop strategies to increase access to these foods for all populations. The first initiative will focus on demonstrates the value of nutrient-dense consumer packaged goods and their role in supporting nutrition security.

Vanguard Committee:

Food Supply

The Food Supply, Distribution, and Availability Initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of food systems during times of supply chain stress. By bringing together cross-sector experts, the initiative will examine both acute disruptions and long-term vulnerabilities, identify shared research priorities, and lay the groundwork for a multi-stakeholder consortium to drive collaboration and solutions.

Vanguard Committee:

  • Lee-Ann Jaykus, PhD (chair) - North Carolina State University

Research Project Updates

Protein Bioavailability

In the coming year, ILSI U.S. and Canada will launch a Protein Committee focused on addressing the complexities of protein bioavailability from foods. Led by Rajavel Elango and Teresa Davis, the committee will examine differences in protein bioavailability and digestibility and work to develop an algorithm for assessing protein bioavailability across food sources.

Recommended Intake Ranges for Lutein/Zeaxanthin

New recommended intake ranges for lutein and zeaxanthin—two key nutrients that support eye and cognitive health—are expected to be released in 2027. These guidelines will equip both consumers and healthcare practitioners with evidence-based insights into the health benefits of these carotenoids.

Call for Papers: AI in Nutrition Science

Global Perspectives on Nutrition is excited to announce a call for papers for submissions dedicated to the transformative convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Nutrition Science. AI holds potential to advance how we assess dietary intake, personalize nutrition recommendations, predict disease risk, and implement large-scale nutrition interventions.

We invite submissions of original research, reviews, and perspective articles on a broad range of topics related to AI and nutrition. For questions regarding a paper's suitability, please contact Elizabeth J. Johnson, Editor-in-Chief, at elizabeth.johnson@tufts.edu. For technical submission issues, please contact the Editorial Office at gpn.editorialoffice@technicaeditorial.com. Please visit https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/gpn to submit your paper.
