The Italian performance artist, who has lived in London since 1979, sat down for a live conversation as part of the Art & Culture Festival - London. He joins SHOWstudio's Hetty Mahlich to discuss his practice as a response to his upbringing as an orphan, being a Gay man during the AIDs epidemic and the political landscape today.
|
The visionary muse sits down with SHOWstudio Editor Hetty Mahlich in front of a live audience to answer questions about the legacy and impact of the late Finnish artist, Tom of Finland. Joined by luminaries and other familiar names from the world of fashion and art, Durk explores Tom’s iconic influence on culture, sexuality, and creative freedom.

“My time at TOM House is for reflection, incubation and pure practise, as free as possible from duty and administration, a chance to exist as an artist without the obligations of daily home life. My intention is to create a body of work distinct to this moment in my life, drawing on the surrounding architecture, flora and fauna, and the people who cross the threshold of TOM House. I’m feeling myself turn a corner in my personal development as my practise breaks new ground.”
