Highlights Celebrating Baba Mbiyu

The weekend of celebration for members began on Friday evening with a festive dinner and dance in the banquet hall of the Detroit People’s Food Co-Op.

Saturday was a day of service, civic engagement, and fellowship. Members volunteered at the food pantry, participated in a discussion with Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson, and enjoyed a guided tour highlighting several areas of Detroit.

The weekend culminated on Pan African Sunday with a powerful and inspiring message from the Presiding Bishop entitled “Built for This,” followed by an expanded coffee hour that provided an opportunity for members and guests to fellowship and reflect on a memorable weekend of celebration.

Black Madonnas & the Black Slate

Recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, this special video offers an opportunity to revisit an important chapter in our story. We thought it would be a wonderful time to take a walk down memory lane and rediscover the history, legacy, and significance of Sisters and the Black Slate. Join us as Reverend Nilaja, Reverend Tene, and Reverend Rashida reflect on the people, experiences, and contributions that helped shape this meaningful part of our collective journey. And Sister Adesola and Sister Ashanti speak to the Black Slate of the present.
