Cape Coral City Council Changes

NWNA Members:

With the tragic passing of Mayor Joe Coviello, the City Council was faced with two options for choosing a replacement. One option was to hold a special election to fill the seat until the next general election. The other option was for the Council to select Mayor Joe’s replacement to hold the seat until the next general election. Council chose the latter and voted to seat John Gunter, the current Mayor Pro Tem, as our next Mayor.

Mayor John Gunter was immediately sworn in. John Gunter is highly qualified, effective, and a strong leader. He is a visionary who wants to move our city forward and he is capable of navigating the tough waters ahead. I have witnessed his interaction with other Council Members and with City Staff. We are in good hands. Please join me in congratulating Mayor John Gunter on his new role and also join me in offering our support.
