EcoLock™ employs a zipper, interlocking technology that eliminates the need for messy adhesives. Besides ease of installation and elimination of down time, it takes adhesives out of the equation and literally clears the air.
How so?
Many flooring adhesives release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can compromise the health of your staff and anybody in breathing distance of the flooring. Here’s a shortlist of possible impacts from adhesives:
Indoor air quality: Many flooring adhesives, especially older solvent-based ones, release VOCs like toluene and formaldehyde. This can harm indoor air quality and cause irritation or other health effects (Choi et al., 2010), (Kucuktuvek, 2020).
Heat-related emission increases: VOC emissions from adhesives increase significantly when flooring is installed over heated surfaces, e.g. radiant floor heating, especially under cold-weather bonding conditions (Choi et al., 2013).
Moisture sensitivity and durability problems: Low-VOC water-based adhesives are better for the air but tend to be more vulnerable to moisture. Inadequate substrate sealing can lead to adhesive breakdown, causing flooring to delaminate, buckle, or blister (Nelson & Hopps, 2012).
Alkaline moisture damage: Concrete’s high pH can cause alkaline hydrolysis, degrading both adhesives and flooring materials like PVC, and increasing VOC emissions over time if no proper moisture or alkalinity barrier is applied (Leivo et al., 2021).
Formaldehyde releases from some adhesives: Petroleum-based polymer adhesives can emit formaldehyde, which is linked to respiratory and other health issues (Kucuktuvek, 2020).
The EcoLock™ is a Red List-Free Commercial Interlocking Flooring - EPD Declared Residential and Commercial Flooring with No PVC, Ortho Phthalates, Chlorine, Formaldehyde, or Halogens. Better yet, it installs with little or no downtime.
