Summer means mowing season for MoDOT, so please watch out for these crews and give them room to do their work alongside Missouri roadways.
Litter is also a concern this time of year as discarded and unsecured trash can interfere with mowing operations, which is why MoDOT began litter-prevention messaging leading up to mowing season.
Last year, MoDOT spent $13.6 million and staff worked more than 180,000 labor hours removing litter from state highways and roadsides - and the department predicts to spend at least that much again this year.
State laws and federal regulations are being enforced to hold trucking companies accountable who travel without a cover and leave a trail of trash along the way.
Remember, it's up to everyone to properly dispose of trash and help keep Missouri beautiful so MoDOT crews can spend more time dedicated to maintaining Missouri's roadways.
