News from hvoss
hvoss UK Community Renewal Fund programme, in partnership with Vennture, is reaching people and communities to build capacity, confidence and resilience, reduce barriers, encourage aspiration, increase opportunities, and enable people to move closer to and into employment.

Our ‘Tea & Talk’ drop-ins offer people an informal social activity to build on and improve their conversational English and grow their social network. An informal participant’-led approach around themes that are important to them makes these groups inclusive and welcoming, encouraging natural friendships and empowering people to have their voices heard.

A key theme has been finding solutions to barriers and as a result hvoss has launched Driving Theory test preparation conversation groups and workshops, enabling people to learn, revise and become confident in their understanding of key terms and activities and work towards success in their driving test theory.

The hvoss CRF team are also working with community groups in rural areas including to arrange events to ask their community how they want to develop. We know there is a lot of interest in activities that young people want to engage with and that this is a key area of development in many places around the county.

Come and talk to us about ways in which we can work together to build capacity and sustainability in your community group or organisation or support people in your community.

No Wrong Door - hvoss Youth Project wins National recognition at High Sheriff’s Association London award ceremony

On Tuesday 15 March, at the National Crimebeat Awards in London, hvoss’s No Wrong Door team were the proud recipients of a prestigious 2nd place award for their project with young people from the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.

National Crimebeat is the Youth Crime Prevention Charity of the High Sheriffs’ Association of England & Wales.

Nominated by Joanna Hilditch DL, High Sheriff of Herefordshire, the hvoss No Wrong Door project gave young people from across the county the opportunity to work with professional film makers to create a series of short films. The films highlight some of the issues and difficulties that young people faced during lockdown.

Talking about the award, No Wrong Door Project Leader, Will Edwards, has commented:

“To be nominated by Joanna Hilditch DL was an amazing achievement in itself, to be selected as a finalist was fantastic and to come 2nd at a National Award is incredible. What a fantastic acknowledgement to all the young people that have been involved in the project showing the needs of young people and what is needed to support them.”

BBC Children in Need announce £3m Youth Social Action Fund with the #iwill Fund

BBC Children in Need, in partnership with the #iwill Fund and The Hunter Foundation, has announced they are delivering a £3million fund to support organisations to embed youth social action across the UK.

The BBC Children in Need Youth Social Action Fund will help to build children and young people’s confidence and skills and will empower them to take an active and leading role in developing solutions to issues which affect their lives and their communities. Social action involves activities such as influencing, fundraising and volunteering, all of which enable young people to make a positive difference in their communities as well as develop their own skills and knowledge.

The fund is open to not-for-profit organisations who currently work with children and young people aged 18 and under and will help prevent or overcome the effects of the disadvantages that they face.

The fund especially aims to reach:

· children and young people who have some experience of social action and want to develop their skills and experience to do more.

·  children and young people who have no experience of social action work at all but want to find out what it is all about.
