REI Receives 2026 Distinguished Partnership Award for Community Engaged Service

We’re excited to share that REI and its statewide Consultative Panel have been selected for the 2026 Distinguished Partnership Award for Community Engaged Service. This recognition reflects the strength of statewide partnerships and shared commitment to advancing community-driven economic development across Michigan.

Over the past decade, REI has partnered with communities, practitioners, and institutions to co-create innovative economic development tools, models, programs and practices that support local innovation and resilience. From applied research, technical assistance, capacity building, and cross-sector collaborations, REI’s impact has always been rooted in partnership. This award recognizes not only the program, but the collective work of the many collaborators who have helped shape and sustain it.

The recognition comes during a period of transition following the nationwide end to the EDA University Center Program. Continued support from MSU and match funders has been essential in allowing REI to sustain its work and remain responsive to community needs.

We are deeply grateful to all REI partners and supporters who make this work possible. Thank YOU Consultative Panel for your dedication and your willingness to share your expertise and insights - helping to advise and counsel REI year after year. This award belongs to you and our communities, collaborators, and champions who continue to invest in inclusive economic development across Michigan. We look forward to celebrating this recognition and keeping you engaged as REI transforms to the next chapter of its work.
