Our legacy at the Michoud Assembly Facility
NELSON has held a supporting role at the Michoud facility since 1952, six years before NASA was formally established. At the time of our first project, the facility was known as Michoud Ordinance Plant and operated by Chrysler Corp. Over the years, our clients at Michoud have included Chrysler, GSA (also during the Michoud Ordinance Plant years), Boeing, Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin and, of course, NASA.
Engineering is the foundation of civilization, and it is certainly the foundation of space exploration. At NELSON, we offer professional services from design concept to construction administration on a variety of building types to help our clients create complex industrial successes. We have executed more than 40 engineering, architecture and environmental projects at the Michoud Assembly Facility to drive operational efficiency and safety. Our technical contributions include:
- Design of the Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) Tank Ablator Spray Facility.
- Rehabilitation design for the Building 303 hangar to support the final inspection, preparation and storage of external fuel tanks.
- Plant modifications, expansions and repairs.
- Environmental modifications.
- Inspection and preparation of plans for facility maintenance and repairs.
- Power supply.
- Environmental impact assessments for the industrial wastewater treatment facility.
- Forensic investigations to determine the root cause of cracking in hoist support structures.
