Heat Safety
As summer approaches, so does the heat. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially for individuals with asthma, heart conditions, or other respiratory concerns.
Stay Safe in the Heat
- Drink water regularly throughout the day.
- Wear lightweight, breathable clothing.
- Limit outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day.
- Take breaks in cool or air-conditioned spaces when possible.
Watch for symptoms of heat related illnesses:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Nausea
- Muscle cramps
- Heavy sweating
- Weakness or unusual fatigue
Move to a cool area, rest, and drink water if these symptoms occur. Seek immediate medical attention for confusion, fainting, trouble breathing, or loss of consciousness.
Asthma and Breathing Risks
- Heat, humidity, and poor air quality can worsen asthma and other breathing conditions. Remember to:
- Carry prescribed inhalers
- Avoid strenuous activity in extreme heat
- Stay indoors when air quality is poor
- Monitor for coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, or shortness of breath

This month you will be receiving a DocuSign email from Laurie Lyons at CCI with an attached presentation for the Basic Assurances. Every person we support at CCI should complete this training overview by June 30, 2026. You can complete the training in one of two ways--
- Read through on your own and/or with the help of your family, then sign the attached certificate through DocuSign by 6/30/2026
- Attend one of the Zoom trainings listed here, where we will review the information together, watch the short videos linked in the presentation, then give participants a chance to ask any questions they may have. NO need to sign up in advance, just log on to attend.

Voting Rights Workshop
DDA supports ongoing education for Self-Advocates to help them be active members of their communities and build good lives. The Maryland Disability Forum is holding six free, in-person Voting Rights Workshops designed for individuals with disabilities. Participants and self-advocates will learn about accessible voting options, their rights as voters, how voter guardianship works, and how to ensure their voices are heard at the polls.

Enjoy a gentle morning at The Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens with limited capacity and natural lighting for visitors with sensory sensitivities. Designed to be less overwhelming by reducing the number of visitors in the experience, sensory-friendly mornings provide an opportunity for you to visit with the butterflies at their own pace. Experience the magic of butterflies soaring all around and maybe even landing on you! Fidgets will be provided and staff will be on hand to facilitate the experience.
