Bolivar & Sunflower County Champions
|
The Bolivar County Circuit Clerk's Office and the Sunflower County Circuit Clerk's Office are both efficient and thorough in the way they handle business. Clerk Marilyn Kelly (Bolivar County on Right) and Clerk Carolyn Hamilton (Sunflower County on Left) do an outstanding job of keeping people informed about issues that include receiving and filing all law suits, indictments, motions and other related papers in all civil and criminal cases; drawing jurors and qualifying juries; keeping a record of all judgments and execution; issuing marriage licenses and keeping records of marriages; recording medical and other professional licenses; and, finally, registering citizens to vote (among other election duties).

Senate Bill 2123 (Corrections)
With the pandemic going on, there would be no better time to pass a bill to make many non-violent offenders eligible for parole. The Mississippi Legislature has a chance to override Senate Bill 2123 to help improve rehabilitation efficiency, cut cost, and, most importantly, send some folks home to their families. In my opinion, this was one of the best opportunities to lessen the strain on our already overloaded criminal justice system. Now that the Governor has vetoed the bill, it will take the will of the legislature to get it back on the calendar. Please text, call, and email your state lawmakers and let them know this would not just be good for inmates, but it would be helpful for the staff as well - many of whom are my constituents.
