Cumberland Celebrates Industrial Road Stormwater Improvements

Earlier this week we joined Mayor Jeff Mutter, Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressman Gabe Amo to celebrate the completion of $1.7 million in stormwater improvements to Industrial Road in the Town of Cumberland.

Chronic flooding during heavy rain events had been impacted the industrial park's businesses and snarling traffic along nearby Diamond Hill Road.

Thanks to a $500,000 award from our Municipal Resilience Program, Cumberland has expanded the system's overall retention capacity and implemented green infrastructure solutions to reduce stormwater runoff and improve discharge water quality.

Voting Yes on Question 5 on November's ballot will approve $25 million for the Resilient Rhody Infrastructure Fund to invest in similar resilience projects across the state!

Vote YES On Question 5 To Invest In A Resilient Rhody

Thanks to our Municipal Resilience Program, Rhode Island is already a national leader in investing in resilience. But the scale of the challenge facing our communities is large with the Resilient Rhody 2025 study identifying at-risk infrastructure in all 39 of our cities and towns.

While we have proudly provided more than $25 million in Municipal Resilience Action Grants, Rhode Island needs a sustainable and reliable source of financing to invest in resilient infrastructure solutions.

That is why voting YES on Question 5 is so important. Question 5 includes $25 million to seed our Resilient Rhody Infrastructure Fund. This new revolving fund, modeled on our successful Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds, will deploy the financing our municipal partners need to invest in new stormwater management, floodproofing, and green infrastructure projects. Voting YES on Question 5 continues the progress that has made RI a national leader in funding resiliency.

Vote YES on Question 5! Please note that Question 5 and other statewide bond questions are on the second side of the ballot.
