🚨Protect Your WhatsApp Account🚨

Your messaging apps often contain some of your most personal conversations, which makes them a prime target for scammers and hackers.

One of the best ways to protect your WhatsApp account is to review your privacy and security settings regularly and enable every available layer of protection.

Features such as two-step verification, device management, and account alerts can help you spot unauthorized access before it becomes a bigger problem.

It is also a good idea to be cautious about unexpected verification codes, login requests, or messages from unknown contacts.

Scammers often try to trick users into giving away account access through social engineering rather than technical hacks.

Taking a few minutes to strengthen your security settings today can help keep your conversations, contacts, and personal information safe tomorrow.

And in Other News...

  • Lost an Important WhatsApp Message? This New Feature Can Help

If you've ever spent several minutes scrolling through a WhatsApp conversation looking for a message, help is on the way.

WhatsApp is rolling out a new in-chat search button for iPhone users that makes it faster and easier to find messages without leaving the conversation.

The search shortcut appears when you scroll up in a chat, group, or channel, letting you jump directly into search mode and look for keywords right where you are.

The feature doesn't change how search works, but it removes several extra taps that were previously required.

For busy users, that small change can save time when searching for addresses, dates, links, confirmation numbers, or other important information buried in older messages.

If you don't see the new button yet, don't worry. WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually, so it may take some time to reach all iPhone users.

Sorry Android users.

There's no word yet on when this feature will be available on Android.

Secure WhatsApp Without Waiting for a Login Code

WhatsApp passkeys let you verify your account with the same face, fingerprint, or screen lock you use to unlock your phone. The feature can make account recovery faster while reducing your dependence on one-time codes that criminals may try to steal.

Receiving a WhatsApp verification code can feel routine, but that short string of numbers is also a target for account thieves.

A convincing caller or message may ask you to share the code, then use it to register your WhatsApp account on another phone.

Here’s a Cool Tip: Create a WhatsApp passkey before you need to recover your account.

WhatsApp passkeys offer a simpler defense.

Instead of typing a code or remembering another PIN, you can confirm your identity with your phone's fingerprint reader, face recognition, or screen lock.

More than one billion people have already created a WhatsApp passkey.

WhatsApp also now allows more than one passkey on an account for people who use both Android and iOS devices.

What Is a WhatsApp Passkey?

A passkey is a cryptographic credential stored through your device's security system or password manager.

When WhatsApp needs to confirm that you own an account, your device asks for the same fingerprint, face scan, PIN, password, or pattern that normally unlocks it.

Your biometric scan stays within the device's security system.

WhatsApp receives confirmation that the check succeeded, not a copy of your fingerprint or face.

The passkey itself is not a password that someone can persuade you to read aloud or type into a fake page.

On WhatsApp, a passkey can replace a one-time SMS code when you register your account again.

It does not replace every security layer.

Your phone number still identifies the account, and WhatsApp's two-step verification remains a separate defense against unauthorized registration.

Passkeys are especially helpful for travelers who may have poor cellular service, families helping less-technical relatives recover accounts, and anyone who wants fewer codes to copy between screens.

What You’ll Gain

  1. Verify your WhatsApp account with your phone's familiar screen lock.
  2. Reduce your reliance on SMS codes that can be intercepted or socially engineered.
  3. Recover access more easily when cellular service is unreliable.
  4. Add separate passkeys when using supported Android and iOS devices.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Here's how to do it.

Before starting, update WhatsApp and make sure your phone has a screen lock enabled.

Your device may save the credential in Apple Passwords or Google Password Manager, depending on the platform and configuration.

iPhone

  1. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Settings or your profile picture, depending on the interface shown.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Passkeys > Add passkey.
  5. Follow the system prompt.
  6. Approve the request with Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone passcode.
  7. Return to Account > Passkeys and confirm that the passkey appears.

Android

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Select Account > Passkeys.
  5. Tap Create passkey > Continue.
  6. Approve the request with your fingerprint, face, PIN, password, or pattern.
  7. Reopen Account > Passkeys to confirm that the passkey is listed.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Less code handling: You do not have to copy an SMS code when passkey verification is offered.
  • Harder to phish: There is no reusable password or spoken code for a scammer to collect.
  • Familiar verification: Face, fingerprint, and screen-lock prompts already form part of normal phone use.
  • Useful while traveling: A passkey may help when SMS delivery is delayed or unavailable.
  • Multiple-device support: WhatsApp now supports more than one passkey for accounts used across Android and iOS.

Cons:

  • Mobile setup only: The web app does not currently provide passkey creation.
  • Dependent on device security: A weak screen-lock PIN undermines some of the practical benefit.
  • Ecosystem complexity: Moving between Apple and Google platforms can require a separate passkey.
  • Not a complete security plan: Users should still enable two-step verification and protect their email and mobile account.

Feature Access

WhatsApp announced on August 25, 2026 that more than one billion people had created passkeys and that users could add more than one passkey when using both Android and iOS devices.

The feature is available through supported WhatsApp mobile apps and requires a compatible device, current app version, and configured screen lock.

Passkey creation is not available in the web app as of September 20, 2026. Availability and exact labels may vary by device, account, operating-system version, or app version.

Score

Criterion |  Score (0–10) |  Justification
Value |  9
Passkeys reduce dependence on phishable verification codes and can simplify account recovery.
Usability |  8
Setup takes only a few taps, although credential syncing and platform changes can confuse users.
Wow Factor |  7
The cryptography is impressive, but the experience intentionally feels like an ordinary phone unlock.
Total: 24/30 | πŸ‘ Good
WhatsApp passkeys earn a strong Good rating because they make meaningful account protection easier for ordinary users.
Compared with SMS verification, a passkey is harder to steal through a fake message or persuasive phone call because there is no code to disclose.

Key Takeaways

A WhatsApp passkey turns your phone's existing face, fingerprint, or screen lock into a fast account-verification method.

Create it now, keep two-step verification enabled, and protect the Apple or Google account that stores or synchronizes your credentials.

Check Out These Cool Tips & Tricks

  • Enable Passkeys: A passkey lets your device verify you without requiring a reusable password or SMS code. Open Settings > Account > Passkeys > Add passkey.

  • Add Two-Step: Two-step verification provides another barrier if someone obtains your registration code. Open Settings > Account > Two-step verification and follow the prompts.

  • Check Devices: Linked-device reviews can expose a computer or browser you no longer recognize. Open Settings > Linked devices, select an unfamiliar session, and log it out.

  • Silence Callers: Muting unknown callers reduces interruptions from spam and suspicious calls. Open Settings > Privacy > Calls and enable Silence unknown callers.

  • Lock Chats: Chat Lock hides selected conversations behind device authentication. Open a chat's information screen, choose Chat lock, and follow the prompts.

  • Control Receipts: Turning off read receipts limits when others can see that you opened a message, although group chats behave differently. Open Settings > Privacy and adjust Read receipts.

  • Limit Groups: Restricting who can add you to groups can reduce spam invitations. Open Settings > Privacy > Groups and choose the audience you prefer.

  • Protect Backups: End-to-end encrypted backups add protection to stored chat history. Open Settings > Chats > Chat backup > End-to-end encrypted backup and follow the setup prompts.

  • Block Quickly: Blocking stops a suspicious account from calling or messaging you. Open the chat, tap the contact or number, and choose Block.

  • Export Carefully: Exported chats leave WhatsApp's protected environment and may include sensitive files. Use Export chat only when necessary and store the resulting file securely.

How to Send Encrypted Texts Between iPhone and Android

Supported iPhones and Android phones can now exchange RCS messages with end-to-end encryption instead of relying on less-private SMS or MMS. A visible lock tells you when a conversation qualifies for the added protection.
