NATIONAL SWAP IDEAS DAY
National Swap Ideas Day is observed annually on September 10 and encourages us to share a creative or helpful idea with someone and trade them for their thoughts in return.
Swapping ideas today does not have to be done on a one-on-one basis. Often, groups of people with similar interests gather with a common goal in mind. The meetings are usually a social gathering. However, on occasion, groups with different skill sets, design talents, and ideas gather. They bounce sketches, eureka moments off each other, and suddenly a new idea develops.
This observance urges sharing concepts and sparking ideas. Many of us are passionate about our careers, hobbies, or special projects. However, sometimes, we require the additional magic that happens when a community of people joins forces to bring a plan to fruition. Maybe it's only a suggestion of an idea, but when it's paired with another, a bigger and more tangible impression evolves. Swapping ideas does that.
Not only that, but groups of people benefit from the skills of others. And the energy of brainstorming compounds the efforts of the entire team. Often an idea shared by one person generates two or even three new concepts within the group, creating opportunities for everyone.

Meteorologist Amber Wheeler
Keep in mind that Francine could make landfall anywhere inside this cone along our southern coast. Trends have been for a direct impact east of the center line you see on this official NHC map. As it moves inland, wind shear will have a big impact. It’ll start to dry up some of the rain around the eye. So we may not see a rain wrapped eye the farther inland it moves. That means when the rain ends, you’re not out lf the woods with wind

Southeast Louisiana needs to now be prepared for a direct hit on Wednesday from Hurricane Francine. Guidance is now bringing the core of the storm into the New Orleans metro area as seen by the graphic below. The graphic below is for Wednesday at 6pm.
The risk for more widespread power disruptions is increasing. In addition, flooding rains will spread into the area beginning tonight. The good news is that this will be over after Wednesday. Stay safe and help each other out. -David

Forbes has named Greater New Orleans as the #1 Best Place in America for College Students and Graduates. Writes Forbes:
“New Orleans, Louisiana, has long been a tourist destination, but the city has also become a landing spot for students and graduates. The city offers accessible, affordable housing and a reasonable living wage, leaving students and graduates with more money to spend on the bustling culinary scene.
- Students make up nearly one-fourth of the population.
- New Orleans has the eighth-highest number of available rental units and ranks in the lowest 25% in terms of rental costs.
- New Orleans has the third-highest number of food establishments per 100,000 residents.
- The median age of New Orleans residents is 39.5.”
The New Orleans region is home to a diverse range of high-quality institutions: public and private, two-year and four-year, including three HBCUs:

Directions and Parking Tips
The Tuesday Market is located Uptown near the Mississippi River levee at Tulane University Square (originally known Uptown Square). Find us in the northeast corner of the parking lot between Leake Avenue and Broadway Street. There's plenty of free onsite parking.
RTA Lines 57, 31, and 32 pass right by market! Click here to view route 57 or click here for route 31/32.
From I-10
From I-10/Pontchartrain Expressway, take the South Carrollton exit. If you're coming from Metairie, the ramp will merge with South Carrollton heading toward the Mississippi River; if driving from Downtown or New Orleans East, turn left at the first traffic signal (Palmetto Street) then right at South Carrollton. Go 2.2 miles to the end of South Carrollton and turn left on Leake Avenue. With the levee on your right, continue 0.8 miles; the Market will be in the parking lot to your left, just before Leake meets Broadway.

Description
This striking cross pendant was once owned and worn by the iconic Elizabeth Taylor. Embodying her irresistible Hollywood glamour, the blue enamel and diamond pendant designed by British bespoke jeweler Theo Fennell is almost as stunning as Taylor herself.
Known for his eye-catching designs and one-of-a-kind commissions, Fennell crafted this cross pendant with brilliant blue enamel and 18K yellow gold embellished with delicate floral motifs. Accented with five white diamonds of F-G color and VS clarity and accompanied by its 14K yellow gold chain, this cross pendant still makes as bold a statement today as it did when Elizabeth Taylor wore it.
Renowned not only for her unforgettable roles in films like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Taylor was also celebrated for her extraordinary jewelry collection. Her assemblage, among the most significant in the world, featured iconic masterpieces from Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, JAR, Bulgari and other distinguished design houses. This necklace is further elevated by its provenance as a part of Kathy Ireland's collection. Ireland, a prominent figure who seamlessly transitioned from supermodel to dynamic businesswoman, has leveraged her brand's influence to become a major force in fashion and home furnishings. Alongside Taylor, the two have redefined the concept of "Hollywood Icon."

NOLA Public Schools to Close Wednesday & Thursday Ahead of Tropical Storm Francine
Early Dismissal Tuesday, Sept. 10
(New Orleans – — NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) has announced that all schools and the Central Office will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12, as a precautionary measure ahead of Tropical Storm Francine’s expected landfall.
Additionally, all schools will have early dismissal on Tuesday, September 10, to allow families and staff time to prepare for the storm. Families are encouraged to contact their individual schools for specific dismissal times. For The Leah Chase School, the district’s only direct-run school, early dismissal will be at 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Tuesday and Wednesday’s closures are intended to provide families adequate time to make necessary preparations and stay safe, particularly in light of potential flooding and other hazards in the aftermath of the storm.
NOLA-PS will continue to closely monitor the storm’s progress and work with local and state officials to address recovery efforts. District leaders will assess the impact of the storm on Thursday and share reopening plans once evaluations are complete.
We urge everyone to remain alert and follow updates from the City of New Orleans. All storm-related announcements will be posted on the NOLA-PS’ website and official social media channels.
Stay safe and continue to monitor official sources for further information.

NATIONAL ANTS ON A LOG DAY
The second Tuesday in September each year celebrates National Ants On A Log Day. This snacky food holiday recognizes this iconic and healthy food snack enjoyed by millions of people across the USA and around the world.
We make this delicious snack by spreading peanut butter on celery and placing raisins on top. The snack name was first used in the 1950s. The typical peanut butter version of ants on a log is recommended as a healthy snack by the McKinley Health Center at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. How healthy is it? We've outlined each ingredient to give you an idea.
Raisins add a little sweetness to snack time while also providing vitamin C, selenium, and zinc. They're also low in sodium and are a good source of potassium, making them great for blood pressure. Another healthy benefit of raisins includes iron, copper, and magnesium. Coupled with potassium, these pH-balancing minerals help keep stomach acid in order.
The next layer, peanut butter, is an excellent source of protein. Along with that, peanut butter offers a boost of healthy fat, too.
Finally, crispy celery is low in calories. But that's not all! In the crunch of celery, you'll find fiber, folate, potassium, and vitamin K. Not only is it low in calories, but it doesn't have any of the fat and cholesterol other snack foods have either.
Early September is a time when kids are headed back to school and more importantly, back to studying. To keep them (and their parents) fueled with brain food is an important tool for staying focused. The designation is to celebrate and encourage healthy snacking using one of the most iconic treats that both old and new generations enjoy.

What does "parallax" mean?
change in the atmosphere
Changes based on view position
Latitude and longitude
Refraction
parallax pronunciation: /ˈpærəlæks/
Definition: the apparent shift or displacement of an object when viewed from different positions. It is caused by the change in the observer's line of sight or perspective.
Origin: The word "parallax" originates from the Greek word "parallaxis," meaning "alteration." It was first used in astronomy to describe the apparent displacement of a celestial object due to the observer's movement.
Example: When you look at an object with one eye closed and then switch to the other eye, you may notice a slight parallax as the object appears to change position.
"Changes based on view position" is another way to describe the concept of parallax. It refers to the change in position or displacement of an object when observed from different viewpoints. This phenomenon is commonly observed in everyday life, such as when we move our eyes or change our position, causing objects to appear to shift relative to their background. The concept of parallax is essential in understanding depth perception, motion parallax, and the measurement of distances in various fields, including astronomy, photography, and navigation.

It’s Fettuccine Frenzy at Middendorf’s Manchac & Middendorf’s Slidell! Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in September, handmade paper-thin fettuccine is on the menu.
This mouth-watering dish is served with your choice of classic Alfredo or Marinara Sauce and topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese with optional add-ons of shrimp, crabmeat and chicken.
- Fettuccine with Alfredo Sauce topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese
- Fettuccine with Marinara Sauce topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese
- Optional add-ons:
- Shrimp
- Crabmeat
- Chicken
- Side of Fettuccine topped with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano Cheese
Fun Facts:
- Our handmade, paper-thin fettuccine was a guest favorite at Bella Luna in the French Quarter. Bella Luna was a fine dining restaurant owned and operated by Horst and Karen Pfeifer. It closed due to Hurricane Katrina and never reopened. The memory of Bella Luna lives on through Fettuccine Frenzy at Middendorf’s. Same Pasta. Same Taste. None of the Fancy.
- Middendorf’s Owner and European Master Chef Horst Pfeifer makes the fettuccine from scratch which consists solely of Semolina flour and eggs. It’s a very time consuming process to make the fettuccine so paper-thin, but it’s definitely worth it.
- Fettuccine is available all day (lunch and dinner).
- Our full menu is also available.
- Uncooked fettuccine is also available for purchase to make a quick meal at home.
We hope you can join us for Fettuccine Frenzy — Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in September!

Playmakers Theater been producing terrific shows from Covington’s Sans Souci Forest since 1955. This Saturday we raise the curtain on our 70th season with the uproarious comedy ‘Til Beth Do Us Part, by Jones Hope Wooten, the same team that wrote 2023’s sellout hit, The Savannah Sipping Society. Directed by Derek Thrush, the madcap comedy revolves around an ambitious, conniving assistant who attempts to take over her harried boss’s business and her husband.
‘Til Beth Do Us Part is a side-splitting comic romp about careens around the strained marriage of Gibby and Suzannah, a couple who have allowed their 27-year marriage grow stale. When new assistant Beth steps in the fireworks begin. Whether you’re married, single, rethinking your divorce or currently being controlled by someone up to no good, you’re sure to enjoy this family friendly, laugh-out-loud comedy.
The cast features Joanna Parr, Shawn Patterson, Stephanie Sayles, Jen Patterson, Laura Hayes, Daniel Jenkins, and Nada Elkassouf. Assistant director is Jen Patterson.
There will be some important changes at Playmakers Theater beginning this season. Evening curtain times will be 7:30 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. to help patrons navigate bridge construction traffic. We will also be adding Friday evening performances. And Playmakers will once again offer reserved seating.
Season tickets are available for $130 and on sale now at BonTempsTix.com at the “Get Your Season Tickets Now” link below. Individual tickets for ‘Til Beth Do Us Part are $20 and also available at the BonTempsTix.com “Get Your Tickets Now” link below. FNWS - Meet & Taste with Importer Mary Taylor
We are excited to have Mary Taylor back at Swirl for this exclusive tasting event! Mary Taylor is a wine importer known for curating and importing a selection of European wines under her label, "Mary Taylor Wine." Her focus is on wines that reflect the true character of the regions and vineyards they come from, emphasizing authenticity, terroir, and tradition. She works closely with small, family-owned wineries in Europe, particularly in France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, to bring unique and high-quality wines to the U.S. market.
Her approach is to offer wines that are not only representative of their origins but also affordable and accessible to a wider audience. Mary Taylor's label often highlights the appellation and the producer, providing transparency about the wine's origin and making it easier for consumers to explore and understand European wines.
Tonight, Mary Taylor, champion of lesser-known AOCs, will personally guide you through a curated selection of European wines, each chosen for its distinct expression of terroir and tradition. Learn the stories behind the wines—from the families who have been cultivating these unique grapes for generations to the production methods that preserve their authenticity. We hope you'll join us!

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon, August 19
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

Billy Nungesser Lt. Governor of Louisiana
For the fourth consecutive year, Louisiana will showcase its vibrant culture in the 2025 Tournament of Rose Parade in Pasadena, California! This year’s float, featuring a Louisiana alligator adorned with beads, a Cajun dance hall, and pots of boiled seafood, perfectly captures the essence of a “Louisiana Saturday Night.” Plus, enjoy mid-parade entertainment by rising country star Timothy Wayne!
We can’t wait to share Louisiana’s celebratory spirit and unique culture with the world once again.
