We are all here because we “know” and in some way support Lab Rescue LRCP and the dogs we take in... but sometimes it’s worth recalling how we got here and what it is we do.
Lab Rescue of LRCP, Inc., established as a non-profit in 1994—30 years ago! —spun off as a non-profit rescue from The Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac, or LRCP, which is still an active club. The origins of our rescue were driven by the same appreciation of the Labrador Retriever breed but focused on those dogs that needed to be rehomed due to stray, abusive, or homeless situations. Over time we have grown into a rescue that spans six states plus Washington, DC, and has rescued up to 1000 Labs each year. It’s sometimes an aha moment and fosters a new appreciation for our passion for the breed when people learn how the Rescue was formed and evolved from the Retriever Club.
Lab Rescue LRCP, AKA Lab Rescue or LR for short, is a virtual, non-profit organization operated by a board of directors and 200+ regular volunteers, with many others contributing their time and skills throughout the year. Lab Rescue LRCP's service area covers the states of Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Washington, DC. It truly “takes a village,” and we affectionately call that village our Lab Nation. We could not do what we do without that support!
Rescue is hard! Some days are gratifying and heartwarming, and others leave us heartbroken... but our dedicated Lab Nation remain diligent about supporting our dogs. Intake works with partner shelters and other contacts to identify and assess dogs through their available histories, behavior, and Lab-like qualities. All accepted dogs are fully vetted, receiving spay/neuter services, vaccinations/boosters, preventatives, heartworm treatment, and other necessary care. At times that can involve a major medical procedure and follow-on attention. Fosters take in dogs to keep them safe and help them heal physically and/or emotionally from whatever situation they came from. They provide security, structure, basic training, and lots of love as they learn what they can about each unique dog to give them their best chance for a happy life going forward. The Adoption Coordinators are our matchmakers. They review their applicants to help them find the right dog for their family...and the right family for the dog. Behind the scenes, other volunteers provide transports, house checks, IT support, data entry, fundraising, marketing, and many, many more supporting roles to keep the Rescue's process moving forward. Of course, none of this lifesaving care for our Labs and Lab mixes can happen without the generous support of our many donors. Our Lab Nation rocks, and we appreciate each and every one of you!

Celebrate! 100+ Spectacular Seniors
Adopted in 3 Years!
|
|
Lives get busy; people get bored. Dogs, particularly older pups, may be cast out to be replaced with a young puppy or for personal convenience. Others tragically lose their homes when their aging owners can no longer care for their beloved older dog. Lab Rescue treasures these seniors. Even as we address their health and comfort, foster, adopt, and love them, we find we benefit far more from them. There is something extra special about the love of a senior Lab.
In December 2021, a generous donor committed to helping every senior Lab - age 9 and older - find their forever home and has sponsored seniors’ fees to reduce the rate to $125 each. In the last three years, more than 100 senior Labs have been adopted from Lab Rescue LRCP! We asked our donor why senior Labs have her heart.
Usually everyone loves the cuteness of puppies. But I love the maturity of the seniors! Some are even puppies at heart! Many have been loved and well cared for by people who can no longer care for them. Some have become strays for whatever reason, and they welcome the love of a person or a family.
I’m a senior myself, and I know how it feels to lose family and be alone. And so, I feel compelled to help the senior Labs and to do what little I can to help them become loved family members. Donating half of their fee is the least I can do to encourage their adoptions. Each time I see a senior adopted, it warms my heart. Please don’t overlook these beautiful souls! They are very special and deserving of our help!
Lab Rescue greatly appreciates the dedication of this donor and the many others who commit their support to our senior Labs. There is no limit to the heartfelt joy and unconditional love a senior pup can bring us… and in return, we find no limit to the depth of our love for them. Please consider adopting one of these available seniors. You will be amazed.

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP EVERY SENIOR PUP FIND THEIR FOREVER HOME, THE ADOPTION FEE FOR EACH SENIOR IS $125 (BONDED PAIR IS $250) |

It’s a great chance to enjoy fellow Lab lovers and meet a variety of pups. (Look for a list or attendees on our social media closer to the date.) AutoNation Subaru of Hunt Valley always goes that extra mile to ensure this is a very special day for people and dogs alike!
Because the adoption events are often very popular, we have several guidelines that make them run smoothly and make it easier on you as an adopter. Please read it thoroughly to learn more and ensure that you have the information you need to join us and hopefully go home with a loving new member of your family.
On October 22, 2019, Subaru founded National Make A Dog’s Day to raise awareness for pet adoption. It is a Subaru holiday that encourages dog-lovers everywhere to go the extra mile for their pups. But this message doesn’t stop with our pets at home. Throughout October, and especially on National Make A Dog’s Day, Subaru is supports and celebrates pets. The automaker is shining a spotlight on hard-to-adopt rescued pets in need of loving homes, including dogs with special needs or a few more candles on their birthday cakes, affectionately dubbed “Underdogs.” See how their Subaru Loves Pets initiative is an ongoing commitment to help all pets find their perfect, loving homes.
