Baby Is Growing and Changing
You're on a breastfeeding journey, and we're here to give you a heads-up about normal bumps along the road.
Babies grow and change in remarkable ways. Sometimes it's a physical accomplishment (like rolling over). Other times it's a not-so-obvious mental development (like stranger anxiety).

Surges in growth cause babies to get a bit "off" in their eating, sleeping or general behavior. Some call this a "Touchpoint" (Brazelton). Others call it a "Leap" (Wonder Weeks). We consider such changes "bumps in the road" as you progress along your parenting and breastfeeding path.

  • These "bumps" can cause babies to be distracted at the breast, to become fussy, or to wake up more often at night. These changes ARE NOT a breastfeeding problem.
  • Instead, these changes are a GOOD SIGN! They prove your baby is developing normally.
  • The "Roadmap to Breastfeeding Success" graphic helps you know what to expect and offers tips on how to carry on for a few days as your baby becomes more capable and engaged with the world around her!
  • One of the most important Bumps in the Road for new mothers is returning to work.
  • Many women feel their priorities have shifted and are ambivalent about returning to work
  • Others are eager to return to work but anxious about leaving their baby
  • Such confusion and ambivalence are expected and NOT a sign of lack of attachment to your baby
